Gaia Reborn
Gaia Reborn, the hottest MMORPG of the last decade, has seen millions of players experience its unique world - a combination of fantasy and reality. When Gaia Reborn was a game, one goal was to make the game world a one-half scale model of the real world. This pursuit was known as the Half-Gaia Project, and it is one of the aspects which led to Gaia Reborn becoming such a popular virtual world. With regional servers having unique areas, quests, cities, and monsters, it wasn't uncommon for people to create alternate characters on other servers to experience what felt like an entirely new game.
Ten years after the game's launch, millions of players have joined and created countless characters across the many servers. Now, with the release of the latest expansion, Pioneers of Arcadia, many are getting ready to begin new adventures in the new Italian server, exploring the new region corresponding to Italy, known in Gaia as Italia. Characters would have to start from fresh in this new world, but Italy would finally get its own piece of this world.
Countless players created their characters, logged in with excitement fueling their hands as the cursor swept across the screen, and then... darkness... Everything was black, and as their eyes opened, the players found themselves in the streets of an unfamiliar city. Looking around to survey their surroundings, many players realized this city was not so new after all. While desolate and ruined, the architecture conquered by vines and greenery, this city was unmistakably Rome, but at the same time, it was not. Finding themselves in the bodies of their characters, trapped in the world of Gaia Reborn, players are left to adapt to their new reality in this fantasy world.
Parcis spent a day ruminating and reading over the letter he had received. It felt like a punch in the gut and a warm embrace at the same time but he had other business to attend to and couldn’t dwell on it. This day began like all the others. A maid would enter, start making his bed and pretending he was not there to force him to get up out of it. The maids had all left for the most part but would rotate who would clean up after Parcis every day. The young Baron was not messy enough for more than one, but just messy enough that if the Baron himself returned he would be upset.
He put on the clothes that had been set out for him. He had to admit, having all of the focus on himself was nice. Usually he had to pick out his own clothes and eat whatever his father or older brothers asked for for meals but now it was sometimes his own choice, though usually the maids just made a meal for each other and Parcis would eat his alone in his room. But this morning, he was treated well. He put on his armor and made his way outside into the crowded streets of Tivoli after a quick breakfast of bread and eggs with a mission to gather as many Landers as he could.
As soon as he cleared the steps out of his home, Parcis immediately sought attention. He summoned his Skinfaxi and kept it at a walk as he made his way into town, head held high. Hopefully he would get some people noticing him now that he wasn’t at chin height with half the men in town. The Skinfaxi held him high, it’s horn glinting in the sun and with the slow speed he was not blurred. He felt like a true noble, maybe even a duke! He lacked the crown, the cape, and the gold that came with being a duke, but he had all the pride in this moment.
“PEOPLE OF TIVOLI” He shouted, “I am asking you all to gather tonight, just after supper in the town center. I have a need for all Persons of the Land to be there, and to come to this gathering with their woes. The world has changed and strange new warriors now walk among us, yet I have made an ally of one of them in Romalia who may be able to help us! So please, again, I ask you to help me aid you. Come to the town center tonight after you have eaten!”
Parcis took a look around after his first shout. He was expecting to at least hear one reply, but nobody even turned their head after the initial glance. He felt like he was shouting to nobody. His voice was not deep, it didn’t carry well, and did not have the weight of his father’s. Hopefully the offer of help would carry his message further than the few people gathered around him. The Skinfaxi continued it’s walk as he looked at the crowds going about their business. He spoke the same message again, finally getting a few ears, even some adventurers started to listen. Did they care? He did not know. He only knew that they had heard.

SidO stood near a food stand. He had just bought a loaf of bread with the little gold coins he had. He takes a bite of the bread. The taste and flavour isn't much, but its enough to be appetizing since he hadn't eaten anything in a bit and it was also the cheapest bread available. "Mmmm. Now that was some bread." He murmers, as he continues eating it.
He looks into the distance and sees an Alv Lander giving some speech about "strange new warriors" and Landers coming together. SidO wonders if he's talking about him, the Adventurers, with the new warriors. He doesn't look like much of a Noble, but I like his energy. Well, since he's asking for Landers.. I don't think this concerns me. He thinks.
SidO finishes eating his bread and continues looking at the Alv Lander who had given a fiery speech previously. He continues to stare at the Lander Noble until an idea pops into his head. Hm.. On second thought, this could be pretty interesting. I should try getting involved. He walks closer to the Noble to inquire. "Ahoy. Mr. Lander Sama, please excuse the presence of this Adventurer. But, may I ask what thine name and title is? And what you intend to do by gathering the woes of the people?" He says while bowing his head in front of him.
After he learned about Tivoli from Evan, Spectre decided to visit it not only to visit a new town in this world but to gain more information about the trapped players' situation. So he spent two days to get there and eventually, he found a somewhat packed street filled with adventurers that Evan mentioned and some residents there. While he was unfazed by the crowd, he was confused about which were players or the "People of the Land" as Evan called it. He already guessed that the Landers were the residents of the world rather than NPCs from Gaia Reborn, so it was a bit frustrating to tell which one was which. For now, he decided to find an inn and rest for today due to sunlight that directed at this street, something that he was trying to avoid due to his new life as a Nozgor. At least that was the plan until he heard some commotion in the distance.
"What the hell was that?"
As he approached the small crowd, he noticed that a strange man was preaching to gather the Landers due to the strange influx of warriors that came out of nowhere. From that description alone, he could guess that he was talking about the trapped players including himself. He wanted to ignore this and move on, but there was something about that man's speech that made him a bit interested. Besides, he was wearing a pseudo-hood that Evan's granddaughters made for him, so there was a low chance he might get noticed. At least for anyone who didn't have a keen eye on players and Landers alike.

It took a week for Lucius to get used to the sensation in his legs which he hasn’t felt in a long time. It still felt sluggish for him to walk, but he figured he got the basics covered. He couldn’t stay hidden in Scalinata di Tredici forever, after all - he had to discover what was going on with his own eyes. A world of beauty awaited him, and his past limitations couldn’t stop him now.
The summoner figured that exploring the surface of the server would give him some information, and would also serve as good exercise for his legs. Better to master the art of walking now, than to have my legs fail me later during a battle. He figured that walking through the fallen ruins of Rome would be a perfect place to begin. He did come across a few other beings, though he could not tell if they were players or People of the Land. What he did know, however, was that there were other players beside him.
After a few hours and several breaks, Lucius arrived in Tivoli. His pace was brisk, at least in spirit - it was not translating quite well into how he walked. Lucius was amazed. This place was more heavily populated than the ruins he passed so far. Moreover, the people there seemed established already. No way could the players build this kind of infrastructure in a mere week… unless I’m a latecomer. I don’t think I am, though. Well… only one way to find out.
As he was lost in thought, a young Alv caught his eye. The young man was calling out to the People of the Land, about their woes and fears. I guess that answers that question. Intrigued, Lucius moved closer to him, but was interrupted by another man - this time an Antas. Lander… sama, huh? Funny way to reveal yourself as a player. He thought as he listened with a smile on his face.
“Isn’t that quite clear, my dear friend?” He answered the other adventurer’s question with his own. “We are an unknown force in this storm of beauty. The native residents must be worried about our increased presence, and so they shall decide what to do with us… together. Such a fiery show of compassion and unity!”
It had seemed that there were some interested folks in the crowd. It brought a smile to Parcis’ face and he held his head high as one less well off person made their way closer. It wasn’t until the very moment he opened his mouth that the stink of adventurer became noticeable. The words this man said made no sense. Sama? Ahoy? He could not decipher these. He then went on to misuse the old language of the land and further cemented the look of disappointment and disgust onto Parcis face. Had he not been so high up on his Skinfaxi mount, he may have thrown up from how putrid this poor creature’s existence truly was. A sad excuse for a member of any society, yet somehow he wound up as one of the supposed saviors.
This gave Parcis the opposite feeling that Maruem had given him. From hope to dread in an instant. His poor attempt at mimicry, the lack of any gear above the basics, the way he bowed improperly, merely dipping his head and not dropping to the ground, and worst of all... this man had responded to a call to rally the People of the Land as if he was the target audience. And he was supposedly a heroic warrior from another world fated to one day save the world. A world Parcis now assumed was doomed.
“You may raise your head and get out of my way. My people’s business is not yours, outworlder. Now excuse me, there are others that are approaching and-” He paused. Though he was speaking, it was clear the other man to approach was ALSO an adventurer. He was not only gaining negative attention for being halted by this creature who addressed him, but now was surrounded by the only type of person he chose not to address. He tried to maneuver the Skinfaxi around the two of them but after a few steps he halted the summon.
This newcomer WAS saying the words he wanted to hear. Unity was the end goal, well, unity with the adventurers that he felt mattered. The 7 foot tall monstrous warrior types. And even if these two weren’t of that breed, they might know one or two. He decided to eavesdrop a bit before responding.
“This meeting has nothing to do with you adventurer’s actually. Not yet at least. Though it could if you did me a favor and spread the word that I, the right honourable Baron Parcis Mediatrium, and yes you need to use my full title, am gathering all citizens of Tivoli tonight, just after supper time in the town center for a meeting to discuss the problems. And who knows, it may allow you to be the ones to solve those problems. It was fated that you would do this, so I am kickstarting the process. What say you? I know your ilk is looking for some... quests?”
The last word he spoke leaked out of his lungs as if the air was barbed somehow. He had wished it were any other word but he knew from his eavesdropping in Romalia that it was a word that inspired action among these strange newcomers. They talked and talked about how the Empty Seas or whatever they called Landers were not giving out any quests, claiming they were useless. As much as Parcis disagreed, because come on, the Adventurers are a class of homeless wanderers and they were calling the TAX PAYING HOMEOWNERS AND BUSINESS OWNERS useless, he knew that in the end a busy population of super powered idiots was better than one that may resent the Landers. It was a compromise he had hoped they would take. The bait was set in the trap, and all these two strange and homeless adventurer’s needed to do was tell his own citizens of his plan to employ all of the newcomers to this world.

SidO stops bowing and looks at the Zaria who had just responded to his query for the Lander Alv. "Oh right. That makes sense!" He looks at the Zaria's status screen to learn his name. Lucius Arthur Mortimer, a Summoner Aventurer huh. He seems nice. His attention was then quickly brought to the Lander Alv, now known to him as Parcis Mediatrium, and his prideful demanor as he went from telling him to get out of his way to asking him and Lucius if they wanted a quest. And in between all of that he could see him pass a very unamused and piercing glare his way.
He stares at Parcis in awe while he is going off. Man, what was that sudden heel turn. Also what was up with that glare? Did I piss him off? This is one hell of a NPC... And a quest huh? That can't be so bad.
SidO answers Parcis. "Yes. Baron Parcis? I would be honoured to take a quest from you. But please give me a moment will you?" He then runs over to the Lucius and whispers to him. "Uh. Hey Lucius? Are you interested in taking this quest? If so, do you please mind talking to him for me? You know, get what he wants us to do, and what we'll be rewarded with or paid? I think he likes you more than me."

He didn't like to eavesdrop on other people's conversation, yet just hearing their conversation with that Lander made him a bit curious. Besides, since he might ask him for information soon, he might as well stick around to listen in more. Yet from their conversation so far, he could tell he was a bit stubborn when it came to players, which was understandable considering that neither party was confused at these sudden events. Unknown to them, they were nothing more than players (well, a new player in the case of Spectre) who were playing an online game that has a world similar to this one.
What was even more worrisome was the guy that he might guess to be another player from his Japanese honorifics that he heard from his cousin's favorite anime show. Spectre was still new to this game, but if he recalled, quests were meant to be a feature where players took the said series of tasks to gain rewards of many types such as equipment or access to a location. He was aware that they were no mere NPCs, but if he could tell them that, that would mean he has to get involved in a situation that he wasn't meant to be in. For now, he had to continue listening on their conversation. If this became more of a quarrel, then he had no choice.

Bemused, Lucius listened to the young man’s long-winded request for help - though he would certainly not see it that way. Lucius could sense an air of regality around him, but that was about the only thing that indicated the mounted man’s title - that, and his own words. Nevertheless, he was intrigued. The young Baron, Parcis, was clearly determined to take action, even though he considered the task somewhat beneath him. Positively surprised, the summoner made up his mind. As he was about to respond, his fellow adventurer pulled him aside and asked him about taking the “quest”. Lucius tilted his head slightly and smiled, patting his cheek with his index finger.
“Why, my dear friend, I would not mind at all. But are you sure about taking it yourself?” He answered, whispering, but just loud enough for Parcis to hear. “These are no mere quests. This is no mere video game. ‘Tis a beautiful reality! But if you do involve yourself with the good folks who were here before us, you shall reap the consequences, good or bad. Think carefully before joining me, but if you do, you are always welcome in between my arms.”
With a slight smirk, he turned to their quest-giver in all his mounted glory. He bowed deeply, to evoke respect but deny groveling, before beginning to talk again.
“My Lord, I would be honoured to assist you. We have rudely disrupted your lives, so giving our assistance is the least that we can do. I may have been thrust into this world out of nowhere, but I do have some experience that would satisfy your delicate tastes…” With a faint blush, he crossed his arms and straightened his back. “Do you wish us to merely spread the word of tonight’s gathering, my Lord? Or would you request our aid on other matters as well?”

The plan seemed to be going well. Not the original plan though, but his new plan to use the adventurers to gather the Landers to a meeting where he actually did not want any Adventurers to be present. That part also needed some work. He had to try to twist this situation so that it would result in these two from being fairly far away with as many other adventurers as possible at the same time that everyone would be reporting for this meeting.
He smiled down at them and held a finger up. “Thank you, and trust me there will be a reward, however that reward comes AFTER the meeting. There is a man in Romalia you should speak to, and use my name when you do. He will have many questions I am sure but after you speak with him, your reward will follow. For now, spread the word that I, Parcis Mediatrium, need every citizen, not adventurer mind you but CITIZENS of Tivoli to gather for a very important meeting after they eat, as I have said. And then, and this is important, I need you to take as many adventurer’s as you can to Romalia and find a man named Maruem. He is a... man who looks like he has kids? Burly, dark hair, talks as though he were wealthy though obviously not nobility. He is an adventurer like you, mind you, so I cannot say where he would be but I know his business in Romalia is not short lived so he shouldn’t be far from there. Once you find this man, tell him of the meeting to be happening tonight, and tell him that I say these words. “You’re turn, outsider.”
He began to pet the Skinfaxi as he spoke, little sparks of lightning popping in it’s mane as he did so. He noticed his mana bar was getting a bit too low for what he had accomplished so he knew he needed to win these adventurers over before he had to continue his own recruiting effort on foot. Being on a magical unicorn was more impressive than simply walking through a crowd after all.
“Does that sound like something you could do?”
Parcis could talk forever, especially to these two peasants who treated him as if he held the same position as his father. They listened far better than the other crowd members, and their odd behavior drew the looks of the Landers in the city that surrounded them. This gave Parcis the audience he wanted. It made him want to speak more! He ordered the Skinfaxi to being a walk once more, talking to the Adventurers as he moved slowly enough that they could keep up easily.
“You see, this meeting marks the first event in our history where Landers and Adventurers had any form of negotiation. I need you two to aid me in this. Your names will be remembered should everything go well, and that is a greater reward than I can think of, though as I said, I have a reward for you upon your return from Romalia, but only if you succeeded in speaking with the man known as Maruem.”

SidO took a moment to think over Lucius's words. Not a game anymore huh? Yea I can get that, even though I treat it like it is. These former NPC's characters are some of the most life like I've ever seen. It beats any virtual AI simulations back in the old world. And consequences? Heh. I think I'm ready, unless its something too dangerous or risky. And I'm welcome to go in his arms? That's very cute. What a great homie! It'd be even better if he was a healer actually! He could make me feel REALLY COZY!-
He snaps out of contemplation, and looks at Lucius now addressing Parcis about his quest offer and asking for its details. He goes over to stand by Lucius as he finishes talking and looks at Parcis waiting for his response.
He then takes in Parcis's quest and its specifics. So we gather Landers for the gala, and then take Adventurers with us to Romalia and find this Mareum guy? Alright. I'll ask Lucius if he has a plan. He's then surprised by Parcis galloping around on his Skinfaxi. Can I do that? ehe. I don't think I can since I don't have a magic horse. He calls out to Parcis. who is now in the distance.
"I, SidO, accept your quest Baron Parcis. My friend Lucius and I will do our best to meet your demands!" He turns to Lucius. "Right?"
As he listened to their conversation, he became a bit suspicious. He could understand the reason behind gathering Landers for this gala event, but the mention of this Mareum guy made him a bit curious and concern. He never expected a player would be well-known to many Landers in the span of nine days, not to mention that he took interest in him. He didn't know him exactly but wondered how much he missed since he was busy learning the laws of this new world.
At this point, he was done listening to their conversation. As much as he wanted information, he decided to leave as he didn't want to get involved in this. Besides, with the sunlight started to expand, he couldn't stay here any longer. But as he was about to leave into the crowd to avoid attention, there might be a chance that the noble's horse may notice him leaving.

Lucius listened with a smile, almost a smirk on his face. It’s not that he liked being pushed around for small errands - quite the opposite, he would probably let his intrepid enchanting companion take care of the bulk of the work. However, the summoner had one character flaw - he loved getting involved. And organising smoother negotiations between the two factions seemed like something he definitely had to pry his nose into.
“Indeed, my friend,” he replied to SidO, then bowed his head slightly at Parcis. “We shall make sure your… requests are fulfilled, my Lord. We shall aid you in gathering your subjects, and then prompt this… Maruem fellow to start a meeting of his own. Well, then, if you shall excuse us…” he promptly turned around, his lowly cape swirling behind him. “We do have a task we need to fulfill, unless there’s something else you would require of us.”
Lucius spoke with confidence, even though he didn’t give notions like success or failure much thought. To find an adventurer amongst many that are in Romalia would not be an easy task, but that’s why he decided to keep SidO around. He wondered what was so special about this man, an outsider to the People of the Land, that he would elicit this kind of reaction from a noble kid like Parcis? There was only one way to find out, and if he were really that exceptional, there was no doubt that they would come across one another. But first things first… time to help the young Baron find some Landers to meet with.

Far from home the tribe of desert nomads trekked east across the dirt roads leading to Tivoli. With their entourage came regal caravans that radiated the pungent fragrance of kyphi incense, frankincense, and myrrh known to the trading kingdom of Ankhet. Music from the mystical culture of Heliopolis began to play off the Rababa and Oud as the entourage of Enochs chart through Tivoli towards Monti Sabitini.
These Enochs were generally of medium height with dusky skin, dark eyes, and blue-black hair. The warrior caste among them, were gigantic, broadly, and strongly built with benevolent beauty known to those with Enochlian blood. These winged horsemen were fabled among the culture of Heliopolis, some tales of legend even mention elite units that commanded fleets of Pegasus units into the fray.
In addition to the grandiose Enochs were nomads of every race, save for Nozgors who did not thrive in the deserts where there was little shade from the sun. They were obviously of foreign origin, but native to Gaia and their presence offered a gateway to to the culture of the south. The nomads of the south favor loose robes for clothing , which are useful in catching the wind and in retaining the heat. The standard dress for one of the nomad men is a white girdled khilat robe with full open sleeves, linen, cotton or silken breeches and a flowing headdress that falls to the shoulders called a kafieh and is banded about the temples with a triple circlet of braided camel-hair. The amount of embroidery on the khilat or kafieh indicated the relative position and wealth of the wearer. Cloaks were made of camel hair and were solid colored. They also wore turbans wrapped around spiked helmets.
The women wear a chador, or a full-body over-dress that includes a ghutra. Beneath the chador, the women wear a body-shirt made of white gauze and voluminous bloomers. The outfit is complete with a broad, red and black hand woven belt, ghutra, a head-band, and cloak. The chador has broad sleeves ending in a flap that covers the hands. The necklines are high. The belt allows the dress to be hitched up to free the ankles. Their cloaks are identical to the men except for being striped. Wealthier women own jackets or silk kaftans, which can be worn over the chador. Some in the group wore thwabs which were a bit more form fitting than the chador because of the cooler climate near the mountains.
The wealthiest among them wear loose, floor-length robes with sleeves, usually made of expensive and luxurious materials such as linen and, for the ultra wealthy, silk. The robes are usually embroidered and made with dyed fabric and trimmed with cloth of gold. The clothing of the wealthiest women is colorful and bright. Her clothes often accessorized with an adornment of gold jewelry and clothing that smells of perfumes and incense.
A keen eye may notice that the people did not favor straight blades. The Heliopolites fought with curved scimitars and Khopesh swords of bronze, iron, or steel depending on their wealth. Their Gods designed the scimitar and Khopesh, or so the priests claim, and the straight blade was seen as offensive to the Gods by some Heliopolites. Heliopolite Bows, a gift from the Gods, also are used by the nobles and soldiers who were famed for their cavalry and horseback archery.
Treasures, riches, and beautiful things cause the hearts and souls of the Enochlian Heliopolites to soar. They live to accumulate wealth and beauty, surrounding themselves with jewelry, so both men and women wear earrings and necklaces. Earrings and bracelets are commonly of gold and silver; necklaces are usually set with precious stones.
The men and women use eye shadow made of finely ground malachite, a green-blue mineral. Khol is used as eyeshadow. Kohl is a ground up mineral compound mixed with olive oil. It gives a dark line and is used by both men and women on the desert to control the sun’s glare. Lip colors and rouge come from berries and cherries mixed with oil and a red mineral. Henna is used for body art for ceremonies or important occasions. Henna stays on the body about twenty or thirty days.
The Heliopolites live to accumulate wealth and beauty, were known to often surround themselves with jewelry and slaves. Some are content to gather their wealth through via trade and mercantilism, although many Heliopolites have a roving mindset, willing to travel and find riches and slaves far from home.
The influential nation is a powerful commercial engine, drawing in wealth through overland trade via well-travelled caravan routes that cross-cross the arid deserts. Trade is the life of Heliopolis and the debauched city-states seem to specialize in their manufacture of goods, living off the unending camel trains.
One of the prominent figures among them was a gallant and powerful woman who radiated strength and confidence and wore those qualities like a royal raiment upon her head. Her ivory wings seemed to have been well maintained through a regiment of daily preening. She wore precious ivory silks with cloth of gold embroidery and Heliopolite platemail as her garb. Golden jewelry adorned her hair and her body in the form of a circlet, necklace, and bracelets. She rides upon a ebony warhorse, Anhur, a mighty Destrier named after the Helopolite God of War and bred for battle. She carried about her the duality of feminine grace and majesty paired with strength and an unwavering resolve.
As she approached the town square, she attuned her ears to a man dressed in fancy Romalian garb shouting out to the public. It seemed he was organizing some affair within the community. The foreign rider chose to investigate further as she dismounted her steed and gave living testimony to the fearsome might of the warriors of Heliopolis as she stood at a towering seven feet and two inches. It was as if one could feel the earth tremble beneath her every step as he well-toned muscles were on full display and highlighted by tattoos of the Heliopolite pantheon adorned her skin in black ink. The way she walked was enchanting, almost as if she moved with the feline stride of the Goddess, Bast. Her golden orbs, one bearing the mark of the Eye of Horus in kohl, lit up in the reflection of the radiant sun as she observed the gathering conversing among themselves.
She lifted her chin curiously as the immortal imposters emerged revealing themselves and bearing the masks of Zarian and Anta faces. The Alv spun a web of intrigue and silver tongued that reminded her of the courts back home in Ankhet. The discussion forced Aminatu to press her mouth into a thin lipped and flat expression. Her tribe, known as the Khi’fika were renown warriors and mercenaries native to Gaia and here this noble was considering outsourcing valuable contracts to this new “immortal” competition. This did not bode well for her tribes economy. She wondered how these immortals would fare on the fields of battle if some of them could barely even walk without looking like drunken apes. The way they found adventuring perilous lands to be a game was sickening to a champion of the fields of battle who knew charting into such territories was a matter of life and death.
Still, there was much to learn about these adventurers and their origin and their presence made Aminatu wonder where else they might be prevalent. Had they invaded Heliopolis and lands outside of Romalia, too? What threat could they pose if they used their immortality for ill purposes? So many thoughts were swimming through her mind as she advanced forward to engage the group.
“Salam, sayyid. May a thousand splendid suns smile upon you. I take it you are the Arbab of these precious lands?” She spoke with a Heliopolite accent, using a Heliopolite term that meant “boss” to address the Baron and taking in the view of the city of Tivoli. “It seems that Nephthys blesses you this day with treasures of the sands.” She chimed as a regal hand flaunted toward the grandiose caravans that paraded through the city while she spoke of one of the Heliopolite Goddesses and guardians of wealth and commerce. “I am Aminatu, Huntsmaster and Shiekh of this clan of Khi'fika within Italia. We make way for the Mountains of Monti Sabatini, hamwatan, and we bring with us precious exports of silk, incense, wool, livestock, tapestry, gold jewelry, and many fine weapons and spirits from Ankhet, which is known as our precious jewel of the south. We shall have our caravans near the town for the night should your people wish to partake in trade. Perhaps your town might have valuable goods and souvenirs we might bring back to our homes in the sands.”
She then cast a skeptical and scrutinizing gaze at the city guards. “It is no secret that my people, the Khi’fika, are a nomadic tribal warband and are famed mercenaries across the land. My scouts have told me that your people have troubles with dangers in the immediate area. Perhaps you seek to wield the might of Anhur’s rage at your fingertips?” She suggested as she spoke of the Heliopolite God of War. “But, the whispers of the dunes tell me that this is a conversation best held in private…” Her last words reflective of her disposition towards the outlanders. “I see that you have an urgent message that you’ve entrusted to these people. Shame that they don’t seem to have a mount. My people could have gotten the job done is far less time...but perhaps the sands of time are not a pressing matter and they may have an established rapport among their kind.”
Her words drifted off as she looked down towards the diminutive Alv. “My people will enjoy the comforts of Tivoli for a night, then we will make passage to Monti Sabatini. Might this meeting be of interest to me?” The elegant and regal giantess inquired.

“I wonder if you came in need of Isis’s peace or have come to wield Anhur’s rage? The winds of the dunes tells me that you desire one or the other. There is no place in-between.”
It didn’t take much to impress these outlanders it seemed. Though he did take offense that one of them was almost mocking the way he spoke. He could smell it on the adventurer that he were not a noble, yet he paraded around as if he were. At least the one bowing had the decency to act like the fool he truly was. The two of them together would make fine jesters should Parcis somehow move up in rank and get a castle to himself one day though. They were more than entertaining and easy enough to recruit to do the little tasks he himself couldn’t be bothered to do.
Before he could speak, however, he noticed something off. There was a strange murmur in the crowd, all heads turning away from the baron and toward something else. He noticed Lander and adventurer alike being enraptured by the sudden sounds of the Heliopolite’s instruments and the stomping of pegasus and horse hooves. It had been, what, decades since the last caravan came through? For a small city like Tivoli this was a blessing, but one regulated by the true baron, not his son with no experience.
A bit of nervousness creeped up Parcis’ spine. He had never handled any single event, let alone a meeting on the same day as a trade caravan passing through. He had only enjoyed the event on the rare occasion it happened. He would wander around their stalls and carts and play where he shouldn’t have, always getting away with it due to his status. He had stolen, broken, and ruined the sales of many a trader and unluckily for him, many Enochlians remembered this, though most had forgiven him as he was just a child. When he matured he mostly just let them be, maybe purchasing a few items here and there. He stared at the caravan in the distance for a time but was quickly shaken from his vision by a voice that came from a unreasonably high angle.
Parcis was indeed a shorter man, but a short man on a horse still held their head around six and a half feet in the air. That did not stop this woman from looking down upon the baron still. She was not just tall, but muscled and intimidating too. For a second he assumed this was another adventurer, specifically the type he had been expecting as opposed to the smaller men that had arrived earlier. He took a second to stare at her body, an uncomfortable scan of judgement as he took her in, then a scan of the two adventurers, and then back to the woman. He stared at her biceps, feeling... inadequate to say the least.
She offered to help him in place of the adventurers, which sounded like the perfect situation. He sat up on his Skinfaxi to try to look larger, being barely 2 inches taller than the Enochlian, which was not nearly enough. Alvs were naturally graceful, so balancing on this creature was a simple feat for the young baron, now standing near 10’4 off the ground and having the woman’s head barely reach his waist. He smiled the most smug and cocky smile he had ever mustered at this point in his life and extended a hand down to her.
“I would be more than happy if you would do this task for me, these outsiders were just leaving, actually. I am the right honourable Baron Parcis Mediatrium, and as you may have heard I am gathering those born of this world to meet without any outsiders. You are correct when you say that Tivoli is facing some less than favorable situations but the most pressing concern right now is gathering the citizens for a meeting without the uh... outsiders. Some have offered to help, though warriors from Helipolis are simply better than any adventurer I’ve seen thus far.”
From his past experience with the tribe, he knew he was talking to a warrior. This woman was gigantic, a warrior caste member for sure. He always kept his distance from them and they rarely had dinner with his family when they visited. Though nobles scarcely came in these caravans the wealthier merchants would find themselves at his dinner table on such occasions. He figured he would at least extend the offer his father did to this woman, maybe whoever she served would like a good meal and someone to keep Parcis company in the large house was never a bad thing.
“You are a warrior, yes? I can tell from the way you’re built. Ogreish and like those horses you ride, surprised they can even hold someone of your weight. Who would I talk to in order to arrange a dinner and help plot where you will set up in Tivoli? Oh, and you two adventurers are still aiding me as well correct? This woman isn’t too intimidating to you, correct?”
He looked at the two adventurers with a smile. He had both hoped they were scared of this lander woman who could crush their skulls with her bare hands, but also had hoped they were brave enough to carry out his task so that Maruem would still receive word of the Lander gathering. His mana was getting low, but he still stood firm on his Skinfaxi, towering above the crowd at this point.

SidO took notice of a hooded figure walking away from the gathering surrounding Parcis and his Skinfaxi. He turned to look at them. Who is that and why're they leaving? They done with this conversation? He looks at the figure's status screen. Spectre!? That has to be a player name for sure! Me and Lucius could ask him to tag along with us on the quest. He whispers to Lucius and points in Spectre's direction. "Psst. Lucius, you see that Spectre guy over there? I think he's a player. I'll go ask him if he wants to tag along with us-"
At that moment, he saw a caravan dressed in what looked like Middle Eastern-like attire stroll into the gathering. Huh? Are these foreign NPCs? That's one tall and muscular lady.. Kinda hot too. Wait. I still gotta reach Spectre. He turns to Spectre's direction and calls out to him. "Hey Spectre! Wait up!" His attention is then caught by the conversation between the conversation between the lady, an Enoch named Aminatu who seemed to be a leader of a merchant band of sorts from this "Heliopolis" place; and Parcis. He turns to listen in on the conversation for a moment. Ah damn. I guess that means Lucius and me are out of half a job...
SidO looks at Parcis after he asks for his and Lucius help. "Ah! Of course Baron Parcis, the lady's a hottie. I am still honoured to help you. But I think we can leave the Lander gathering to the Heliopolites; while Lucius, me and our friends go find Mareum. Now if you'll excuse me." He bows at Parcis. "Come on Lucius! Lets go!" He waves at Lucius to follow him, and runs toward Spectre.

Welcome to the help dialog for the Custom Mini-Profile Creator plugin!
Click on any of the tabs above to go through the plugin configuration process!
You can access this menu at any time by clicking on the icon in the bottom right bar (may not be applicable if you're on Forums.net), or you can disable the welcome window and/or the icon by going to Plugins > Manage > Custom Mini-Profile Creator and changing the Show Help option.
This step is essential as it gives the plugin everything it needs on the page to get as much profile information as possible.
To make the profile variables work you'll need to add a new line to the very end of Themes > Layout Templates > Mini-Profile and paste the code below on it. The code should be placed completely outside of the mini-profile, so if you're using the default mini-profile template this will be after the very last closing </div> tag. This needs to be done on every theme you have the plugin enabled on as the template is theme-specific.
If your mini-profile template is already customized and you've hit the variable limit for your template you're free to remove any lines from the code below if they contain information that you don't plan on using. For example, if you have no plans to ever add a user's IP to their mini-profile for staff reference you can remove <div class="mp-info ip">$[user.ip]</div> from the code and everything else will still work just fine.
Once you've added the HTML from the Layout Templates tab you're ready to move on to building your mini-profiles. If you want to get going and try some out now or you're not very adept at HTML, CSS, or Javascript, worry not! This plugin includes some examples for you to try out. You're free to skip to the Custom Profile Fields tab and read over this tab later when you're ready to build your own.
Here's a quick rundown of each of the components in Plugins > Manage > Custom Mini-Profile Creator:
Name This is the name you'll be adding to your custom profile field dropdown once you've finished coding the mini-profile. Pretty self-explanatory. Make sure this name is unique from every other name you use for your mini-profiles or you'll end up overwriting the earlier ones in the list.
HTML This is the HTML that will go inside your mini-profile. You can use just about any HTML tag here so long as it's appropriate for where the mini-profile is showing on the page. Please refrain from using <style> or <script> tags here. You have the next two sections for that! Also, remember that mini-profiles can show multiple times on the same page, so you shouldn't add ID attributes to any of your elements here. Two elements on the same page cannot have the same ID per HTML standards.
CSS This is where you'll place what would normally go in your forum's style sheet or what would normally be between <style> tags. Try to code your mini-profile's HTML in a way that will allow you to target it specifically with your selectors. For example, you can surround all of the content in your HTML with a <div> element with a class and target that class and its child elements specifically with your CSS. That way you don't accidentally target every mini-profile on the page with CSS that was meant for the one you're building. One more thing: The forum theme's CSS still applies beforehand, so your mini-profile may look right in one theme but not in another. The best way to circumvent this is to define as many styles as you can to override the theme's CSS.
Javascript Anything that normally goes between <script> tags will go here. This one's a bit tricky since you'll obviously want to target the custom mini-profile specifically. Luckily there's an easy way to do that. In your statements you can use the $(this) variable to target the mini-profile if you're coding using jQuery. Otherwise, if you only plan on using standard Javascript you can target $(this)[0] instead.
Once you've finished building your mini-profiles it's finally time to add them to the Edit Profile page for use! To enable selection of custom mini-profiles you'll first need to add two specific custom profile fields in Members > Custom Profile Fields in your forum's admin area:
Mini-Profile Theme
Staff Mini-Profile Theme
Mini-Profile Theme is for mini-profiles that are designed for member use. You can set the Who Can Edit option for this field to Staff With Power if you only want staff to be able to choose mini-profiles for users. Otherwise, if you want members to freely be able to choose their own mini-profiles you can choose Members and Staff With Power.
Staff Mini-Profile Theme is for mini-profiles designed specifically for staff use. This field is completely optional.
Set the type for both of these fields as Drop Down Selection. Click on the (View/Edit) link to add mini-profile names to each of these fields.
If you've just installed this plugin you should have three different mini-profiles already installed by default: Example 1, Example 2, and Example 3. You can add these to your dropdowns to test them out and see the plugin in action.
If you're having trouble getting this plugin to work despite following the instructions in the previous tabs you may want to check that each of your themes meets the prerequisites below in Themes > Layout Templates > Mini-Profile.
First, ensure that opening tag of your mini-profile template includes the $[miniprofile_class] variable in its class. On the default ProBoards theme it should look something like this:
<div class="$[miniprofile_class]">
Next, make sure that the default {foreach} loop for custom fields is present inside your mini-profile. It doesn't need to be visible, so you're free to add it inside a hidden element if you don't plan on displaying it or if it would mess up the appearance of your own custom template.
Beyond that you can do whatever you like to the mini-profile template for the most part and it shouldn't negatively impact the plugin.
The following is a list of available variables for use in the HTML section of the mini-profile creator and their definitions. Adding any of these to a mini-profile will generate the content described in its definition in place of the variable so long as the information that variable outputs is visible to you.
To reference your forum's custom profile fields you can use $[user.customfieldname], substituting "customfieldname" with your custom field's name. You'll need to type the name in all lowercase with no spaces and only use characters A-Z and 0-9.
For example, Mini-Profile Theme becomes $[user.miniprofiletheme]. This will output the value of the custom field. In the case of this example, it'll be the name of the mini-profile theme you've chosen in your profile.
IMPORTANT NOTE: These will only work if you followed the steps in the Installation tab of this window on each of your themes. Any themes that do not include the template code specified there will not have these variables replaced in the mini-profile.

You can utilize the $(this) variable in the Javascript component to target the mini-profile <div> element. For example, if you wanted to add a class to the mini-profile you can use:
$(this).addClass('class-name-here');
Profile variables can also be used in the Javascript component in this plugin. In Javascript the value undefined is used to signify that a value doesn't exist for the variable you've specified. With this in mind you can use profile variables in Javascript conditional statements within the plugin similar to how they're used in the actual layout templates section of the admin area.
if(variable) will only run if the variable you specify has a value.
if(!variable) will only run if the variable you specify has no value.
Example 1 (variable has value):
if(user.group){
$(this).find('.group').show();
}
If the user has their group displayed in their profile the above Javascript would make the HTML below visible if you had it hidden with CSS.
