Gaia Reborn
Gaia Reborn, the hottest MMORPG of the last decade, has seen millions of players experience its unique world - a combination of fantasy and reality. When Gaia Reborn was a game, one goal was to make the game world a one-half scale model of the real world. This pursuit was known as the Half-Gaia Project, and it is one of the aspects which led to Gaia Reborn becoming such a popular virtual world. With regional servers having unique areas, quests, cities, and monsters, it wasn't uncommon for people to create alternate characters on other servers to experience what felt like an entirely new game.
Ten years after the game's launch, millions of players have joined and created countless characters across the many servers. Now, with the release of the latest expansion, Pioneers of Arcadia, many are getting ready to begin new adventures in the new Italian server, exploring the new region corresponding to Italy, known in Gaia as Italia. Characters would have to start from fresh in this new world, but Italy would finally get its own piece of this world.
Countless players created their characters, logged in with excitement fueling their hands as the cursor swept across the screen, and then... darkness... Everything was black, and as their eyes opened, the players found themselves in the streets of an unfamiliar city. Looking around to survey their surroundings, many players realized this city was not so new after all. While desolate and ruined, the architecture conquered by vines and greenery, this city was unmistakably Rome, but at the same time, it was not. Finding themselves in the bodies of their characters, trapped in the world of Gaia Reborn, players are left to adapt to their new reality in this fantasy world.
This was the only thought looping in Paulette’s mind since day one.
By questioning people around her, the situation was more than clear : everybody’s lost.
She met people like her, wearing basic clothes and being unaware of nothing but very scared.
She met fiery looking adventurers but they were struggling with issues Paulette couldn’t understand. Like how to crack the setting board and join the admin, where to find bosses or how to get clues on the story plot ?
She even met people acting like everything’s normal and judging her like she was a freak coming out of nowhere. They were so into their role that they were pretending to live here since birth and treated her like a stranger.
Basically three common states of craziness. She also realized that lots and lots of her comrades were alone and looking for their friends. She has nothing more to do than deal with her own case and wander all over Romalia looking for her brother.
Her biggest issue was she didn’t know how he was looking or what was his name.
At the beginning she tried to ask people “excuse-me, have you seen my brother ?” But this was aimless, nobody knew her or her brother. Even worse, asking this out of context to strangers made her look more crazy than the others.
So she stopped and just walked down the streets, observing passers-by.
Arriving in a large park with umbrella pines and a fountain, she felt like she had already seen this place before. It was where she first appeared.
Paulette whent to the exact point where she awoke last time. If she remembered well, before logging in, her brother told her to wait there. But she had already waited all a day without any result.
Being positive, she chose to stand there again. You never know, maybe this time will be the good one. Hopefully, she didn’t have to wait alone, she took her whistle and called Saguaro.
The black horse appears next to her. He was friendly. Paulette brushes him a length, then lunges at him.
In her real life, she learned how to bread them, and this one wasn’t acting any different. Actually he was even more docile than usual. He was committed to her, completely. The idea that this horse was already raised for her popped in her mind.
Mounting an unknown horse is dangerous, but she had a good feeling and had to try. At worst, she can fall badly but she trusts in her abilities.
Of course, she didn’t have any equipment except the rope lanyard Saguaro arrived with.
Paulette touched his back, Saguaro didn’t move, she put her weight on it, the horse stood still. Finally she climbed on his back but he didn’t show any worries. She continued to test her mount, evolving on the grass, Saguaro answered well enough. He knew how to walk, trot, turn right and left, strop and even step back. The big moment arrived, when Paulette asked for the gallop. But the black stallion ran nicely around, listening to her rider.
He passed the test with flying colors, thought Paulette while her favorite feeling came back at her.
Riding her new horse, she decides to explore new pathways more outside of Romalia.
There was a little hill next to the public square she was in, she climbed it galloping.
On top of the hill she found a wood sign indicating “Tivoli”. From her point of view, Paulette stared at the land in front of her. The path down was rocky but the edges were grassy and full of white flowers. She could see tiny animals in the tall grass and the trail disappearing in higher hills.
“What if he was out there ?”
Looking back to Romalia she suddenly felt like she had seen it all and needed to leave. After all nothing was holding her there, maybe she would find her brother in Tivoli.
As the day was at noon, she decided to go toward Tivoli at full speed.
Enjoying Saguaro’s gallop, she goes down the hill looking at the landscape around her.
Suddenly, the stallion swerved brutally. Paulette tried to stay on his back but he kicked her and fled away in the fields.
Back on her feet, she turns around to discover what scares Saguaro, and is immediately frightened : a red wolf is standing in front of her.
The furry animal growls at her, other grunts answer on it’s back. They are five of them slowly walking towards her.
On top of their head, Paulette can read “Roamurus”. She has no idea of their strength but she definitely knows she has none.
It was going to happen one day. That moment when her actions finally catch up to her. Alma never thought that it would though after spending several days inside a rather pitiful room. Hardly a bed or space to call it her own but the truth of it was that it never belonged to her at the start. The days of wandering Romalia and doing small tasks and chores to help people, getting paid for the troubles, and treating the experience as small odd jobbing to further understanding what this Romalia place is about did she now return to the small pitiful room that was never her own to begin with.
Now, it was locked.
The door didn't look all that different to her before and when she had left but for certain did the deer woman understood it was locked the moment the door wouldn't budge. Try as she might and short of kicking the door in was the room not giving in. Bits of reality sinking in as the Faunri woman could only look at the closed door in defeat. These odd jobs for what she thought were quests to make a small bit of income to feed herself meant only so much when the only half-assed place to call a 'home' is now closed off. Luckily, Alma didn't own much in material items. What money she had was into pocket inventory and what clothes she owned were in her bag and carried on her person. The storage room was but a storage room anyway so there weren't furnishings like a dresser or wardrobe. The little cot in there may have been placed to be a rest area or something by someone else but it wasn't her own.
"The owner must have put this there," she muttered and tapped the door. A forbidden place that without an access key would strangers like herself remain out. Fearing the owner would come eventually to give her an earful over trespassing on their property made her ears and small tail slacken. If she recalled correctly were the base prices for housing were awfully high. A meager wage wasn't going to cut it. If this were like any massive online player market then she'll have to play the market in some way to rake in funds. Alma's talents were on the path of being a Scribe and a Sigilmaker though making her wares to make very limited. Could call a Sigilmaker to be half a job when looking at its abilities compared to, say, a Carpenter.
With another weight to hang down on her lonely heart, the deer woman walked away from the storage room for good and made her way to the edge of Romalia to contemplate there. She ventured outside the walls maybe about once or twice into the grassland areas and remained on the beaten path for safety. A combat class that feared fighting. What a laugh. Alma gripped one of her arms quietly when following the road to the exit. What on earth was she even doing with herself? Hiding away in a shed and foolishly thinking her mind had a grasp on how this world worked. It was confusing and frustratingly so. Alma, or rather Claire who should be behind the computer screen looking at menus and a beautifully crafted world in a romantic Italian themed countryside, now lived in the body of a deer Faunri and lacking the fancy menus and comfort of playing from a blanketed bed. There weren't as many menus to navigate and no guides to search up on Google for help. Even talking to people felt like her chest could get shot at any moment when saying something wrong about equating this world as a game.
It should be a game! That's what this was! Wasn't it!? Alma wanted to talk to someone and cry out in her confusion but ended up bottling more than intended. How she wished for the little cat girl with the large red coat to be here to give a moment's company and cheer her up but that person too had seemed to have left. Indeed, Alma began to think many have left her behind. But the feeling of starving and the chilled evenings were real enough as the smell of alcohol from bar drunks in taverns around dinner time. What was she doing wrong to not even succeed? There weren't any obvious quests or was it wrong to think the odd jobs she's been doing all this time weren't quests at all?
"Maybe it's about time I face the facts." The woman left the gates under the watch of the city guards in their outposts to follow the road a little. The open landscape unfolding so innocently to the vast dangers lying in wait. Game logic told her that monsters of fearsome levels were beyond the beaten path and should leave her alone if not threatening them. Around town should only have the variable weak types and maybe one roaming creature either overly high leveled and peaceful or a few levels higher than the others to be a sort of early predator Adventurers could test their skills on.
But... if this was more real than a game then shouldn't the number of monsters roaming the field be all equally dangerous? A low-level slime may not be any different than the same higher leveled wolf. Alma took a step backward hesitantly. If only she met a stronger leveled friend or a senior that could show her the ropes. Someone that was smarter who understood what's going on. Anyone like that at all! The sun hung in the noontime position overhead. There's still time to turn back and return to the world of safety behind the walls and retreat to a new place. There's no shortage of abandoned buildings and rooms. What's one storage facility when finding another wouldn't be impossible at all. Turning away to do just that did she soon spy the exact sort of monster she figured to be roaming the fields. A small pack of wolves at the base of a hill. How unusual to see a group of creatures like that.
Now if this were a game, creatures aren't and don't travel in obvious groups unless they're one of several things. A designated mob that roams close together introducing danger in cooperative skills and numbers a soloing player would face. There's also the possibility that the monsters happen to spawn close together for the sake of keeping enemies in an easy to remember local so naturally, so too would their numbers be higher to account for many adventures who would need to be basic starter questing to essentially hit and run for the drop and move on. The last one she could come up with came in the style of older games where in order to farm exp most efficiently would be to tag as many monsters as possible and try to kill them all at once either by actually attacking them or getting into their aggro range to be followed in the first place. Either of these was logical and valid reasons to think... for a gamer anyway. Whether this applied into Gaia Reborn was a different story where Alma was far more afraid to voice aloud.
Armed with that logic though meant the monsters are facing off someone else. Therefore it should be safe to approach and watch from afar. Maybe there is such a person out here! Someone with strong combat capabilities to take care of these creatures! Maybe after they're done with the group would Alma be able to ask if they could give her some pointers. Desperate and willing to con herself into that thought did Alma turn once more away from facing the route back into Romalia city toward the group of wolves. Approaching them from behind to peer past their cluster of "Roamurus" name tags did Alma spy a lone player. They didn't look like they were ready for a fight at all as assumed. "They...seriously weren't fighting them?" Surprised for her assumption to fail her, Alma shifted her self-centered concerns away to the situation at hand. They needed help.
"H-hey! Do..do you need some help?" Alma tried to call out to them but found her voice coming out small. They might not even hear her or the wolves for that matter.
'Guess that doesn't leave much. I hope they don't get mad at me,' Alma balled her shaken fists and began making her way to the group. A slow walk turning into a jog and then a short sprint. Once close enough to the wolves at the rear of the pack the moment her foot hit the ground a large stone pillar shut up from underneath the beast sending it up in the air with a whining cry of a dog getting kicked. Obelisk Stomp flashed briefly in her mind's eye as the skill name appeared by the sailing wolf and faded from her vision. The pillar remained as Alma continued to advance. She's never fought a large group before and nothing like scary wolves as these. If it gets too bad then maybe they could run away out of their aggro range. Yeah...that would be safe.
"R-run!" She called out to them, hoping to be heard a bit better this time.

Those wolves were beautiful but threatening. Since day one, Paulette had a spear and a wooden buckler with her. However she didn’t think teasing a wolf with a stick was a good idea. Plus she didn’t want to turn back on them obviously, but didn’t want to attack them either. She had forgotten to ask her brother if the game was bloody before starting and she disliked the idea of hurting those animals or being harmed herself.
Being stuck in this tricky situation, she suddenly notices a girl with antlers running towards her. At the same time, the wolves noticed her presence too but a big rock rose from the ground, throwing the furry animals in the air. What a strange sight but Paulette didn’t get the time to observe, this girl was obviously saving her and she was asking to run away.
Not thinking further, she just ran next to this stranger long enough to lose those wolves behind.
They were supposed to run for their life, but Paulette had trouble evaluating hif she was running at her full speed or if she could do better. Having a taller body than in real life was a new setting she didn’t completely get used to. However, as the newcomer girl was even taller than her she kept her rhythm.
When they finally stopped, Paulette laughed madly. She didn’t really know why though, but this sudden complicity with a stranger had a comic side. Plus, she thought about these big wolves again, getting kicked in the air by a pillar. A deer haired girl chasing angry wolves, that was kind of ironic too. For all those reasons in one, Paulette was taken by a sudden uncontrollable laugh.
Between two bursts of laughter she still managed to say what she first had to say :
-“Haha, Thank you for the help ! Haha”
But before engaging the conversation further she had to cover back her breath. Trying to calm herself down, she looked at how the girl next to her was reacting.
The eyes of the purple-haired woman making Alma feel suddenly self-conscious of what she's going. The nervous Clair in her eyes panicking to start drafting apologies for showing up. Maybe they didn't need her help after all. Well, if that's the case then maybe running away would make it look like that the deer really was just passing by. Not intentionally hitting to snipe other people's monsters for exp to leech off of or anything of the sort. The tall rock face standing in its oddly producing location as the deer woman passed by and...kept running.
Howls of the wolves as they got to their feet to shake off the sudden blow had them psyching themselves up for a hunt. Time to really make like a stag in a forest and flee! Passing by the woman for a moment and onwards with the snarlings of enemies chasing after them, the seafoam haired deer kept up a steady pace. Running around in this world has made her feel like Alma could go sprinting for a mile and not get breathless afterward. Knowing to eventually outrun the enemy was oddly comforting.
'Okay. I'll just run till I lose their agro and follow the road back to the city,' was the game plan in Alma's head till she turned and found that the purple-haired elf was not only of similar height but actually keeping up with her!? Eh!? Alma coughed and stumbled for a moment at this revelation. Stunned as it were to see this removed the concern of the wolves as far behind as the creatures fell.
The sensation of danger was replaced to a comical irony as the pair slowed down to somewhere else in the rolling fields with mildly puffing chests. Alma sighed and rested her hands on her knees for a bit just to watch the other woman start having a laughing fit over this. A thank you bubbled out somehow.
"Ah, y-you're welcome." Alma glanced away briefly in embarrassment. To call that helping and the pair running away wasn't exactly the sort of rescue she'd be willing to share again over a campfire. Still, they were alive. She took this time to sit down on the ground and cross her legs. "I hope you weren't really intending to fight them all. I'm sorry." The deer's ears lowering apologetically briefly and then perking up in high alert due to anxiety. "Er, maybe what I mean is, how did you found up so many to begin with?"
While Paulette was recovering her breath, the deer girl looked embarrassed. She was looking away and answering shily, then she sat on the ground. Paulette looked back to see if the wolves were still in sight, but they weren't. while she was watching the land they had just run, she saw the silhouette of a man walking towards her. The seafoam haired girl said she was sorry for interrupting the potential fight. “She apologizes for saving me ??” Paulette was about to disallow these words when the deer girl added “Er, maybe what I mean is, how did you found up so many to begin with ?” Paulette laughed again
-"I have no idea ! They scared me on the way and I would definitely not have fought them.”
A light breeze passed through the trees and grass, this game world was definitely beautiful. But the happiness she felt in this moment was due to the talking between them. She hadn’t noticed it until now but this was the first time she was actually laughing with someone since she was brought into this world. Hence, naturally, she asked
-I’m Paulette by the way, what’s your name ? I’m going to Tivoli, if this is your route we could go together ?
When mentioning Tivoli’s road she looked again at the progression of the man, he was almost at their location.
SidO walked across the same rolling fields he had once seen in a game, which are only now a part of his everyday reality. Man, to think I'd be darting across the rolling field and running from the same Roamurus I'd been grinding in game the other day, or well when this was all all just still a game. He squirms when thinking of he Roamurus. I almost got ripped apart.. I gotta figure out combat soon if I'm gonna survive. He keeps walking. Just where is this Tivoli place? I saw a sign for it in Romalia so I was thinkin it wouldn't be a bad idea to visit, but I'm so lost. Does my interface have a map? Eh. I'll figure it out later.
While walking and contemplating to himself, SidO sees two figures at a distance and goes closer to them. He sees a purple haired Alv and a blue haired Faunri with deer ears, both of them female. He overhears them mention "Tivoli" while they're talking to each other, and checks their status screens. Paulette, an Alv Duelist. And Alma, a Faunri Monk. Are they adventurers? I haven't seen many Landers around these parts. I'll approach them and see if they wanna party up to reach Tivoli. He walks and stops in front of Paulette and Alma.
She was..laughing?! Alma could feel her pale cheeks turn a bit red in awkward embarrassment. Meekly she coughed a few chuckles before a small and brief natural laugh came out from the infectious nature of laughter. Just what was so funny about this!? Although it did lighten up Alma's tight nerves to give more care to listen more. Paulette? Tivoli? Her ears flinched and tried to draw up a map in her mind's eye. Nothing of that name came up on the paths she came across and trailed over before. If she were to mentally zoom back out of the map to see if the name came up anywhere would Alma find little information about it. A blob of charted Romalia and a skinny trail leading away following the main road to a beach and back. In other words, was the rest of the world known to Alma was uncharted to remain under a thick fog of the unknown.
"Ah. I'm ... Alma," the deer woman greeted with a stutter. Nearly close to saying her real name instead for a bit there. "So...Paulette was it? Where is Tivoli? I've never been that way before." The woman spoke looking near placid but her voice was clearly sheepish of the lingering shame of spending 99% of her time in Romalia proper. Only recently was there a driving reason to leave for other prospects but that too was sheer embarrassment to speak of. Her ruby eyes stared at Paulette's character with their name above them and then toward another who came into her field of vision. Her deer ears standing more erect and tilted in the direction of the sudden 'Hey' that greeted the two women.
"Hey..." A lanky arm raised when staring at the giggling woman and now this newcomer. His name above his head read SidO which could only be something a player would type up. It was then that Alma realized she was looking at two other people that might not be a citizen of Romalia at all. Carefully she got up and brushed away the loose bits of grass blades off her rather basic looking clothes. Seeing as how the man came up rather friendly like to them, Alma turned to Paulette first.
Paulette understood Alma was feeling lost out of Romalia’s walls. If she wasn’t aiming at Tivoli, what was she doing in this field far from the security of the city ? She gave up on asking, as herself, the deer girl certainly had her reasons and Paulette didn’t want to make her uncomfortable. Moreover, they were interrupted by the arrival of the man from earlier. He came in a friendly way, greeting them. Making Paulette happy to meet him but creating a slight misunderstanding in Alma’s head.
-”I don’t know who this is,but let’s see if he knows something about Tivoli” whispered Paulette to Alma’s ears before starting the dialogue
-Hi ! We’re looking for Tivoli, do you know the way ?

SidO thinks to himself for a moment after hearing Paulette's question, smirking. So, my hunch was probably right. These two are most likely new players wandering about after the great isekai Apocalpyse. I'll ask them to party up so we can go to Tivoli.
He turns to Paulette and Alma and asks with a smile, "I don't, but i'm trying to head there too. You guys players or "Adventureres" too? We can party up and head there together. And I can provide support in battle since I play Enchanter." He ponders while waiting for a response. Paulette looks pretty laid back. Alma looks less composed though. Is she worried about something? Well, I don't blame her. Being thrown into another world one day out of nowhere, especially, one that's a game, isn't normal. Do either of them want to go back? Hm..
A confused look crossed her eyes as Alma turned to Paulett and then to the male as he arrived. She didn't know much of this stranger and it looks like it was would everyone's first time meeting one another. This is all well and good but what did all or any of this have to do with Tivoli? Alma was left wondering on this as she scratched at the scale of her pixie cut head and the base of her deer ears. That brief whisper also felt a bit weird too. Was whispering to someone always that weird before? The woman was left to her own thoughts about this while checking her map once more to see how far away Tivoli was from Romalia. Small towns can't be that damningly far from the main hub city. This country should have maybe a farming town or two if carts always came into the city in droves.
"Oh, uh, yeah. A party would be good," Alma nodded in full agreement. Grouping up was better than striking it out alone and, even as strangers, these people didn't seem too bad as far as running away from wolves one moment and seeing this laid back guy. He even greeted himself using Adventurers and an Enchanter! Two words Alma wouldn't have thought to hear since the people always called them Pampardi or something in the Italian flavor text. If only Latin was much more interesting at school plus an easier study guide to go back and forth with these new terms to remember.
"Well, I guess I'm supposed to be a Monk but I'd much rather we don't go crazy fighting everything along the way," Alma added in what her class was in low key discomfort to dissuade any thoughts of their group becoming some combat junkies. Roaming the countryside being murder hobos to slay any which wolf and stray squirrel that looked at the wrong and devilishly. "If it's all right with you, how about you be leader," Alma tossed in her vote of who would be wearing the figurative badge of leadership to Paulette. "We could chat along the way. I'm interested in hearing about this Tivoli place."
Since they were introducing themselves with their classes, Paulette wanted to do likewise. Unfortunately she didn’t remember her own classe since she never had to use it and was not accustomed to this system. This resolved in the worst way to introduce herself : -”And I’m a speedy weapon specialist… I mean I have a spear !” brandishing her wooden spear to show her new comrades hoping they would understand. With this meager knowledge Paulette was more than uncertain about deserving this leadership. However as it was only supposed to be a travel to Tivoli without fighting and it seems that she was the more informed on the way towards it, she accepts this responsibility. -”Okay let’s get going then.” In order to reassure the deer girl, she added “As long as animals don’t attack us, we’ll leave them alone. I don’t really want to hurt them anyway”
They started to walk and even if Alma asked to chat, Paulette went silent for a moment. Because she had nothing to say about Tivoli she was letting the enchanter do it. As the vegetation was clear, they could see far away. Soon, tiny dwellings could be seen in the distance. It probably was their destination. Maybe I should say something nevertheless ? Though her. She looked at SidO and asked -”I am going to Tivoli because I think my brother can be there, why are you going there ?” She already knew her faunri friend was kind of lost but she was interested in SidO’s knowledge.

SidO looks at Alma as she finishes her introduction. She doesn't want us to go kill crazy huh. Fine by me, real in the flesh combat is scary as it is. He turns to Paulette as Alma asks her to be party leader, and then sees her strut her spear. He smirks. Nice! Good to see our leader's got some nice moves!
He then proceeds to walk with them and thinks to himself. Hm.. She didn't open the interface to send us a party invite or anything. Does she knows how to use it I guess we're a party in spirit. Yea! Whew they accepted my offer! Well I'm glad to be travelling with some other people. er Players atleast. I was getting a bit lonley wandering around Romalia and its outer parts alone, now I have some people I can count on to make the journey more entertaining and less risky! Two girls too. Lucky me, I wonder if they were catfishing. Not that it matters in this world now. Heh.
Startled by Paulette's question, he turns to her to answer. "Oh, so you're brother was also a player huh..Oh. er. Um. Why I wanna go to Tivoli?. Hmm..Well. I think its because I kind of wanna get away from all the noise of Romalia. Y'know after getting sent here, all the players were startled and panicking and whole place was up in a big storm yea? I wanted to go somewhere to get some more peace and quiet; and Tivoli was on the sign for the next town over so I decided to head there."
So Paulette is out looking for their brother who is somewhere in this world and SidO wanted to get away from Romalia for a bit. Yeah... sharing she Alma got kicked out of a storage room cause the owner eventually got around to locking the place was definitely something not to be shared. Quickly the deer took hold of the other parts of the conversation in hopes that more dialog between one another could bury that topic into the depths of obscurity. "I-It was a bit of panic back in town. None of this was what anyone could have expected. Maybe had that wishful thinking of doing something similar like characters in a game or story. They make it look so easy though...." Alma chatted away in light strokes to avoid delving too deeply into the parts that personally struck emotional cords.
"Maybe when people have a better idea of this world would there be less to panic about?" That seemed like the sort of notion anyone would want. Trying to find a bit of normality in this odd world and how to understand it. Talking to these two certainly helped Alma to relax a bit on that front. Being so stressed about what to say without appearing weirdly out of place as her height and antlers already provide. "But um, Paulette, do you have any clues at all on how to find your brother? If I were to look for any of my sisters here, I'd try calling out their real names."
Screennames be damned and no megaphone function, that sounded like the fastest take. The woman folded her arms loosely as her ear stood and twitched slightly for any monsters to come by them again. Their group might work more together if any trouble comes their way. For now she unconsciously kept to herself and shared less so of her person than the rest of them.
Alma’s ear rose towards the woods like a deer at bay, automatically Paulette glanced at this direction, checking for any dangers. It didn’t seem to have any, but this reflex she just had questioned her. Is she controlling her ears at will like if having deer’s ears was completely normal or does her ears move by themselves without her even noticing it ? Since she met Alma, she hadn’t paid attention to this detail but now she noticed it was obvious: her ears were acting like ones of an animal on alert. Whether it was wanted or not by the faunri girl, her body language expressed distress. Is she scared ? It couldn’t be them who scared her. Alma chose to stay with them by herself and even made the talk. On the contrary she looked reassured to walk along them, she was more certainly afraid of the outside. That would explain why she doesn't want fights and listen to every sound. It was a bit of panic back in town she said, maybe her beginnings in Romalia went hard ?
Not willing to dig more on that part, she stopped looking at Alma’s ears and focused on what the two of them were saying. Apparently Tivoli was a quiet place, it was hard to believe there was a location spared by the craziness of those last days. But maybe that was what they all needed right now. As they looked curious about her brother's story she explained herself a little more.
-In Romalia I tried calling his name and asking the others but it’s aimless. His real name is unknown and I haven't any other clue. Hopefully he knows my name and face and probably some easier ways to find me.
Paulette was completely new in the video game’s world but she had a complete trust in her brother’s abilities. They’ll be reunited eventually and he would be able to make them leave this game reality. While waiting for that to happen, she could adapt to this new life and make some friends on the way.
-So you have sisters ? How cute ! Are they here too ? What about you SidO ? Do you have any relatives ?
She said that but they didn’t seem to travel with family, maybe they didn’t want to. Or maybe their families weren't even aware of what Gaia Reborn is, like her, not so long ago. And after all not everyone was as dependent on their siblings as her. She quickly added
SidO thought to himself. Yea there probably would be a less of a panic if everyone knew what was happening, how or why we got here and if we could go backc. Not that I'm in any hurry to leave, this, aside from fighting, is a nice change of pace from college. Paulette doesn't seem to worried about this situation; she's more worried about finding her bro. Understandable. He then looks at Alma. Her ears are twitching. Hmm. Thats kinda cute. But is something bothering her? I'll ask later.
He listens to Paulettte talking about her brother. "You don't know your brother's real name. That's tough.." He turns to Paulette to answer her question. "Uh. Siblings? I don't have any, I'm an only child." word count: 124 total word count: 124 + 269 + 142 + 222

This step is essential as it gives the plugin everything it needs on the page to get as much profile information as possible.
To make the profile variables work you'll need to add a new line to the very end of Themes > Layout Templates > Mini-Profile and paste the code below on it. The code should be placed completely outside of the mini-profile, so if you're using the default mini-profile template this will be after the very last closing </div> tag. This needs to be done on every theme you have the plugin enabled on as the template is theme-specific.
If your mini-profile template is already customized and you've hit the variable limit for your template you're free to remove any lines from the code below if they contain information that you don't plan on using. For example, if you have no plans to ever add a user's IP to their mini-profile for staff reference you can remove <div class="mp-info ip">$[user.ip]</div> from the code and everything else will still work just fine.
Once you've added the HTML from the Layout Templates tab you're ready to move on to building your mini-profiles. If you want to get going and try some out now or you're not very adept at HTML, CSS, or Javascript, worry not! This plugin includes some examples for you to try out. You're free to skip to the Custom Profile Fields tab and read over this tab later when you're ready to build your own.
Here's a quick rundown of each of the components in Plugins > Manage > Custom Mini-Profile Creator:
Name This is the name you'll be adding to your custom profile field dropdown once you've finished coding the mini-profile. Pretty self-explanatory. Make sure this name is unique from every other name you use for your mini-profiles or you'll end up overwriting the earlier ones in the list.
HTML This is the HTML that will go inside your mini-profile. You can use just about any HTML tag here so long as it's appropriate for where the mini-profile is showing on the page. Please refrain from using <style> or <script> tags here. You have the next two sections for that! Also, remember that mini-profiles can show multiple times on the same page, so you shouldn't add ID attributes to any of your elements here. Two elements on the same page cannot have the same ID per HTML standards.
CSS This is where you'll place what would normally go in your forum's style sheet or what would normally be between <style> tags. Try to code your mini-profile's HTML in a way that will allow you to target it specifically with your selectors. For example, you can surround all of the content in your HTML with a <div> element with a class and target that class and its child elements specifically with your CSS. That way you don't accidentally target every mini-profile on the page with CSS that was meant for the one you're building. One more thing: The forum theme's CSS still applies beforehand, so your mini-profile may look right in one theme but not in another. The best way to circumvent this is to define as many styles as you can to override the theme's CSS.
Javascript Anything that normally goes between <script> tags will go here. This one's a bit tricky since you'll obviously want to target the custom mini-profile specifically. Luckily there's an easy way to do that. In your statements you can use the $(this) variable to target the mini-profile if you're coding using jQuery. Otherwise, if you only plan on using standard Javascript you can target $(this)[0] instead.
Once you've finished building your mini-profiles it's finally time to add them to the Edit Profile page for use! To enable selection of custom mini-profiles you'll first need to add two specific custom profile fields in Members > Custom Profile Fields in your forum's admin area:
Mini-Profile Theme
Staff Mini-Profile Theme
Mini-Profile Theme is for mini-profiles that are designed for member use. You can set the Who Can Edit option for this field to Staff With Power if you only want staff to be able to choose mini-profiles for users. Otherwise, if you want members to freely be able to choose their own mini-profiles you can choose Members and Staff With Power.
Staff Mini-Profile Theme is for mini-profiles designed specifically for staff use. This field is completely optional.
Set the type for both of these fields as Drop Down Selection. Click on the (View/Edit) link to add mini-profile names to each of these fields.
If you've just installed this plugin you should have three different mini-profiles already installed by default: Example 1, Example 2, and Example 3. You can add these to your dropdowns to test them out and see the plugin in action.
If you're having trouble getting this plugin to work despite following the instructions in the previous tabs you may want to check that each of your themes meets the prerequisites below in Themes > Layout Templates > Mini-Profile.
First, ensure that opening tag of your mini-profile template includes the $[miniprofile_class] variable in its class. On the default ProBoards theme it should look something like this:
<div class="$[miniprofile_class]">
Next, make sure that the default {foreach} loop for custom fields is present inside your mini-profile. It doesn't need to be visible, so you're free to add it inside a hidden element if you don't plan on displaying it or if it would mess up the appearance of your own custom template.
Beyond that you can do whatever you like to the mini-profile template for the most part and it shouldn't negatively impact the plugin.
The following is a list of available variables for use in the HTML section of the mini-profile creator and their definitions. Adding any of these to a mini-profile will generate the content described in its definition in place of the variable so long as the information that variable outputs is visible to you.
To reference your forum's custom profile fields you can use $[user.customfieldname], substituting "customfieldname" with your custom field's name. You'll need to type the name in all lowercase with no spaces and only use characters A-Z and 0-9.
For example, Mini-Profile Theme becomes $[user.miniprofiletheme]. This will output the value of the custom field. In the case of this example, it'll be the name of the mini-profile theme you've chosen in your profile.
IMPORTANT NOTE: These will only work if you followed the steps in the Installation tab of this window on each of your themes. Any themes that do not include the template code specified there will not have these variables replaced in the mini-profile.

You can utilize the $(this) variable in the Javascript component to target the mini-profile <div> element. For example, if you wanted to add a class to the mini-profile you can use:
$(this).addClass('class-name-here');
Profile variables can also be used in the Javascript component in this plugin. In Javascript the value undefined is used to signify that a value doesn't exist for the variable you've specified. With this in mind you can use profile variables in Javascript conditional statements within the plugin similar to how they're used in the actual layout templates section of the admin area.
if(variable) will only run if the variable you specify has a value.
if(!variable) will only run if the variable you specify has no value.
Example 1 (variable has value):
if(user.group){
$(this).find('.group').show();
}
If the user has their group displayed in their profile the above Javascript would make the HTML below visible if you had it hidden with CSS.
