Gaia Reborn
Gaia Reborn, the hottest MMORPG of the last decade, has seen millions of players experience its unique world - a combination of fantasy and reality. When Gaia Reborn was a game, one goal was to make the game world a one-half scale model of the real world. This pursuit was known as the Half-Gaia Project, and it is one of the aspects which led to Gaia Reborn becoming such a popular virtual world. With regional servers having unique areas, quests, cities, and monsters, it wasn't uncommon for people to create alternate characters on other servers to experience what felt like an entirely new game.
Ten years after the game's launch, millions of players have joined and created countless characters across the many servers. Now, with the release of the latest expansion, Pioneers of Arcadia, many are getting ready to begin new adventures in the new Italian server, exploring the new region corresponding to Italy, known in Gaia as Italia. Characters would have to start from fresh in this new world, but Italy would finally get its own piece of this world.
Countless players created their characters, logged in with excitement fueling their hands as the cursor swept across the screen, and then... darkness... Everything was black, and as their eyes opened, the players found themselves in the streets of an unfamiliar city. Looking around to survey their surroundings, many players realized this city was not so new after all. While desolate and ruined, the architecture conquered by vines and greenery, this city was unmistakably Rome, but at the same time, it was not. Finding themselves in the bodies of their characters, trapped in the world of Gaia Reborn, players are left to adapt to their new reality in this fantasy world.
It had been a couple of weeks now since the Apocalypse, and the high amounts of stress caused by this "adventure" of being trapped within a video game, or something quite like it, was starting to get to people, including Rime. Thanks to the support of her friend, she's become relatively stable as far as food and shelter go though it's nowhere near where she'd like it to be. And so, to solve two issues at once, Rime had decided to go out and gather supplies for her yet unutilized Artisan crafting talent.
She figured that if she could gather what she needed to get started she could probably start making some money and stop leeching off of others. Plus, in the real world, she'd always had an interest in glasswork. And so today we find her on her way to the Tiber Coastline, a place that is likely covered in very large amounts of sand. Everything Rime had seen so far led her to believe that this world follows most of the rules of the real world. Beach equals sand. And swimming. But that is for another day.
The weather was overall pleasant, though it was a bit chillier than most might like. Rime loved the cold, however. It was part of the cause of the naming of both her character and her real-world pet, after all. The sun was shining and warming the area up after a morning of overcast skies.
Rime could be seen heading out of Romalia alone with her staff in hand and a cheap shovel and pick stored safely in her magic bag. Little difference in her attire could be spotted from when she first appeared in Gaia Reborn, with her basic shirt still being her primary wear. She was hoping to change that one day, but that would require funding.
She'd done very little fighting since the Apocalypse, but she was determined not to make another scene like the last... three times this week. Three times she was spotted fleeing from some unseen terror back to the safety of town though both she and anyone that saw her couldn't verify the identity of her pursuer. It was probably a squirrel or something. This time, however, she was determined to complete her task. She was to stay on the road that follows along the Tiber river until it reaches the shoreline, and that was what she would do. She stopped briefly just once after spotting a small deposit of limestone and quickly took her pick to it to gather it and move on.
As she strolled, she passed by several people, giving them lots of space each time and simply nodding politely while clutching her staff. Rime was still quite unsure how to handle herself around the other players, as in the first days more than a few people were acting quite hysterical. Whenever those passersby would be far enough, Rime would continue her thoughts quietly but still aloud, trying to keep her mind focused on her expedition and the upcoming attempt at crafting.
"Hm... I suppose I should have brought more bags. Though, I'm not sure how I'd even get my hands on them. Legally, at least. Well, if I fill my magic bag that should be enough to get started. Then I'll just need to find a furnace. Hopefully, there's one in Romalia that can burn hot enough... "
The secondary goal of this trip was to take a break from stressing out, after all. Hobbies are pretty good for that. Rime looked at the road ahead and saw she was getting very close to the shoreline now. She was getting a little excited to see the sea for the first time in several weeks. Midday had just passed as she picked up the pace just slightly, putting her at a pace to match most others when they walk.

[attr=class,xiontext] After the initial panic had set in, she ultimately began to wonder about her body back in the real world. Would her husband have even noticed her being gone? Was she perhaps already dead back in the real world? Would he have cared if she did die? All of these questions, racing through her head, but they ultimately led her to come to a singular conclusion. Why go back? What good was there in going back to a life where nothing good was waiting for her. And so she figured that if she wanted to truly live, and to enjoy herself, this was going to be the best place to do it. So for as much as she knew some people wanted nothing more than to go back home and see their significant other, she was the opposite. Not that she would tell anyone about it. But she had come to this decision. If she wanted to truly live, she was going to do it here. If she had any choice in the matter that is.
So while there were some individuals in the community that were completely torn on what to do with their new life, some being even too afraid to even go out and explore, she was the opposite. She had never left one of the big cities, so living in ruins. It was an entirely new feeling for her. And while it certainly lacked the comfort her apartment had given her, as well as the security, there was also something just.... so freeing about it. Like, when you can truly just stop and stare up at the night sky, was that really so bad? To just look at the stars and wonder if they were looking down at you?
But with enough romanticizing, there was still the number one necessity everyone needed. And that was survival. Making money, and being able to actually survive in this new world. She had noticed some people who would go out and get terrified of their first interaction. Their first time fighting an enemy, their first time seeing blood. And even she would admit that the first time, it was unsettling how realistic it was. The only time she had seen blood before was when she cut herself cutting. Or well, the only time she had seen it recently at least. And yet, she also knew that you have to get ahead in this world. She wasn't going to be a tool in someone else's game anymore. Not figuratively or literally. Well literally she was, but you get the idea!
Anyways, it was on a rather pretty day that she found herself out and about, looking around for monsters to hunt, when she caught wind of someone else travelling down the path, or rather, heard someone travelling down the path. She of course, was resting under a tree, enjoying the shade and a quick drink after a few hours of hapless hunting. And wouldn't you know it, it was a girl that she recognized! Not for any good reason mind you, but she recognized her none-the-less. She was the girl that was always running back into town, terrified of some monster, and yet, no monster was ever there. The first two times she had even grabbed her gear and gone out to go find whatever it was she was running from, only to be disappointed that there was no monster around. The third time she had just ignored it and gone back about her day.
So to be honest, she was kind of curious what monster it was that she was always running from, standing up and brushing the dust off of herself, she would move out from the shade of the tree and intercept the girl, standing in front of her and giving her a humble smile. "Hey there! Going out to hunt monsters again?" She would ask with a hand raised in a small wave. Maybe if she were to travel with this girl, she might finally be able to figure out what it was she was always running from.
"Maybe I should have brought Maeve after all. I heard the road was nearly always clear of monsters, but what about the shoreline?" A drawn-out sigh escaped her but as she spoke quietly to herself she found herself continuing on the path. "It can't hurt to go and see at least. I can always run if need be."
Rime's musings we're brought to an end when her eyes shifted toward a woman coming toward her from the treeline nearby. Assuming she was just getting back onto the roads, Rime moved slightly to the side of the road with the intention of giving the incoming person plenty of space. Of course, that didn't work so well since said incoming person was coming for her. When this stranger stopped in front of her and spoke, Rime just smiled politely as she pondered her answer for a moment.
"Monsters…? No, I am going to the shoreline to gather some materials. But… what do you mean by 'again'? Do I know you?"
Rime searched her memory rapidly for the woman's face, but to no avail. They'd never met as far as she could recall. She clutched her staff nervously. Who was this person? Were they planning on asking her to join on some monster hunting? It wasn't a foreign concept by any means, but Rime's solo experience since the Apocalypse has been unpleasant, to say the least. Still, though, fighting monsters would be something she needed to do eventually to gain more power. Doing so in a group was highly preferred.
Rime cleared her thoughts and refocused on the person in front of her, awaiting an answer.
Weather was clear and looked to be the best in the week. The best and likely the safest time to head out. Over the few days staying around the city did it became more apparent that the money exchange for crafting items wasn't as ideal. Her line needed several pages to make something and papers and ink weren't cheap. Maybe someone far richer could stay in the city to pull that off but it's going to be hard finding constant work. Not everyone would be in need of help that didn't involve killing monsters. Coupling this would the number of people capable of doing these tasks was far too much competition and stress to deal with. Supposedly gathering would be the real method. With her goal of finding a real house to live in and stockpile money to have a living, gathering her own supplies was the true way.
Even still, even in knowing that this would be the money saver to answer any problems, it's the fact of leaving the city. After learning that the immediate area had low-level monsters, the coping mechanism of keeping game design logic helped map out the small steps. Roads are generally safe and Goblins make a lot of noise when attacking in groups. Monsters are fairly weak and should be in thin populations when putting places for players to gather. On a worse case, there would be a handful of monsters around that clearing an area making the gathering to be safe and effortless. That's how single-player games tend to be thus an online game would have something similar. Bearing these notes in mind, Alma stared at the sky and began her walk down the road.
Slowly with each step, she moved further away from the city of Romalia. Now and then her antler head would turn to look over her shoulder as if checking to see if someone was following behind her. Noises outside the city weren't so disorientating yet the wildlife had its own brand of tunes she would need to familiarize herself with. Her bright red eyes searched the area over her shoulder then back down the road. Not a sense of hurry was in her steps as her sandals kept to the road. Off to the side, she saw some animals as the area zone names changed in her mind when leaving Romalia's outer city area and more into the open world. She'd rarely gone this far away that thanks to how safe the roads would be, she'd go a bit further without realizing it.
In her mind, Alma wondered what sort of items to gather. Back in the homeworld would trees be chopped down and put into a process of turning into a pulp then strained in watery vats till they stuck together, dried, and cut into the sizeable sheets. There was even that one grade school experiment the teacher had the kids do use old blue jeans to make their own paper squares using a liquid solution and the jean fibers. They kinda turned into paper but were tiny squares all the same. Not enough to make a full-on book that way so in comparison of all that and the mass-produced versions did she worry that the Gaia Reborn method would be forever! "Maybe I should have changed professions," she sighed with doubts long before putting an effort to try. The only saving grace here was that the crafting menu brought up in her mind's UI looked simple. Perhaps far too simplified even.
In her mind's eye would she see the necessary ingredients listed by the type and how many they needed. Because there was a lack of discovering the items herself, most of these were blank except for the basic ink and paper craft. Even then would these craft recipes be also simple and listed the type the item in their description. She would need a plant item for paper, a feather to be her pen and reagents as ink. The simplicity of these kept Alma's thoughts from running wild in a panic as usual. Her head tends to be a duck on water; calm on the surface and insane kicking underneath. "It's a bit vague though," Alma admitted to herself and paused to check her surroundings a moment. Could it honestly be any plant type item? No way. What counted as a reagent even? Alma was no scientist and it's been a while since high school biology to get that right. "I guess if I know what plants and feathers are then everything else is a reagent. It's to be mixed to 'react' so... right, a 'reacting agent', reagent, that's how the teacher got us to remember that." Almost too childish to say out loud but if it helps to remember then what's a few brain cells lost going backwards to relearn topics.
To test this theory for hard facts, she started to pick up whatever was not far off the road along the way. A strangely taller tuft of grass than the others or a few flowers because they looked pretty. Were flowers plants or reagents could be checked later. The way their fresh stems snapped and sweetened scents tickled her nose made the walk all too relaxing. "Yeah," she sighed without thinking too far into weird sci-fi movies to ruin the small things found. "This is real." Alma would gather up was odd grassy leaves and flowers she'd find like this using longer blades of grass to type them into a bundle and put it in her magical bag. When the first bit was shoved inside, she patted it securely for these plants to stay fresh till back in the city. This bag they all carry was pretty handy this way. Once back was her mind right ahead in planning out an inn to stay so she could stay up making these new papers and things. It all sounded rather fun to get back to doodling. "Oh, I wonder if she'll like that when I find them again." She thought of Velia in how would they like it to have a notebook. That girl's bag did have the appearance of carrying everything so maybe they were already in possession of one but would they have the whole writing set? A light smile formed of making something like that.
One her way down the road in a far saner frame of mind than when she left Romalia earlier that day, the sun was starting to really warm up the area. Guess that's the Mediterranean for ya. "I wonder if I can wear a straw hat for this," Alma sighed with a hand raising to shield her eyes a bit. Staring ahead for some shade to hang out at did she spy a pair of individuals talking up ahead. They didn't appear to be going anywhere and neither were they dressed like local farmers taking the road city-bound. "A party?" Bearing a small handful of white and blue field flowers currently in her hand, the deer woman made her way toward them. It'd be nice to see what sort of people they were. The closer she got to them would she tell right away that these people weren't exactly locals from their rather nondescript choice of clothes that looked rather similar to her own as bad of a sign that would feel in hindsight.
Arriving to their group, Alma tilted her teal head slightly as a simple tall woman in plain attire with slender deer antlers decorating her head with the wildflowers in hand. She looked at them both in silence for a moment before finding an opening to speak in their current conversation circle. "Hello. How has the outer city been so far?" A mature woman's voice asked in a rather awkwardly worded question in hopes these two to be fellow players to maybe catch her drift. It was either that or no making Alma sound like an idiot that forgot how to talk to other human beings.

[attr=class,xiontext] As she had just minorly berated the girl that seemed to always be somewhat dainty. At least in terms of, she was always the one that was running from monsters, she had made somewhat of a name for herself, or at least, if you called her 'squirrel-girl' the people that she talked to at least, would immediately know who you were talking about. And yet now, it was going to be fun that she could actually head back and start telling people she had met the infamous squirrel girl.
Though, once she corrected the fact that she wasn't actually going out to go gather materials, she would just sigh before saying "Well, you don't know me. But believe me, multiple people know of you. Or at least, we know of your failure at-" She would say before stopping herself mid sentence, because well, the footsteps she had heard making their way down the path were finally pretty much on top of them. Instead, she would look up at the much taller girl who was now approaching... and that wasn't even counting the antlers on her head, that probably made her about... no... a little over a foot taller than her? Jesus, some people went for height.
Anyways, as the girl would ask them, it would seem that she was much in the same predicament as them, or at least, it seemed like she wasn't from here as well and was trapped here much the same. Or well, 'trapped' in her opinion. "Outer city has been fine. Nothing like having a roof over your head mind you, but well, that's why I was hunting monsters earlier. Gotta make that money somehow." She would say with a grin, having somewhat ignored what she was saying to the other girl before. "Can I assume it's treating you much the same? Though, also can't say I've seen you around these parts too much." She would say while giving her a once over, just making sure she had certainly not seen anyone like that before. "Or ever I believe." She would conclude.
The current concern that wave through the mind of the young Enoch, Fukuro, is not the fact that there is a chance for her to unable gone back to the real world, it is far from that, in fact, she hopes that is something that will be permanently unanswered, but it is the possibilities of being dead within the game right now will be a real death for them. Unlike within the game, Fukuro can’t carelessly test the fear that she has right now - One misstep would become fatal if it indeed means real death. Therefore, the track of her mind after thinking the route that she should go next, lead her to harvest several harvest items for the crafting sake wherewith her talent will able to make medicine or potion out of it. A simple item that can heal some health point, it might be only restoring a small amount of health but it is enough for a beginner such as her.
With an idle thought, ignoring the bustling crowd that results from the reality hasn’t sunk to the mind of the people around her. Weaving through, passing the angry people that try to vent out their stress over this crazy situation for others. It is a miracle for her to be as calm as right now, however, it is something understandable when her current condition is far better than what she had in real life. Fukuro has cut ties to the real world since her first step in this world, which is not too long ago. Passing through the gate and find her legs brings her to the Tiber Coastline on where she is going to look over some items, at least that was the plan when she saw a group of people gathering within a spot enough to pique the curiosity of the Enoch. Fukuro raised her eyebrows observing not too eager on greeting them as quickly as she sees them. Fukuro look over her surrounding as she walks to notice several herbs on the path that she can name the toxicity of it. ‘Is this because of my Apothecary talents? This might prove to be the best for me to eat in the wilderness if it is needed’ Fukuro ponders after noting the plant that is toxic and not.
After following the trio from the safe distance where they shouldn’t be wary about her presence, there is no suspicious activity can be seen from any of them. No sign of them being a bandit nor a monster, but then again - Fukuro should have noticed that just by looking at the interface within her vision. Fukuro just shrugs it off and increase her pace, trying to approach the trio that was in front of her. Fukuro notices a woman with purple hair and judging from the racial traits that she has, she might be faunri. In fact, everyone here except Fukuro is a faunri making her be the odd one out. “A group of Faunri? That was fast for a group to be made” Fukuro thought out loud, letting the people within that group can clearly hear on her own thought. “Oh, I guess all of you were friends on the other side of the world. If that’s the case, that would make sense” Fukuro nods feeling convinced that her guess is the right one. Ignoring a concept called personal space as she keeps talking.
“Well, since I am here. You all are planning for some gathering stuff? Count me in if it is so” Fukuro let out a smile to the people within that group. Opening the brown wings from her behind revealing that she is in fact an enoch. Fukuro squints her eyes to see the name of the people in front of her ignoring any kind of manner. “So, Rime, Alma, and Isabella. I am sure you can see my name on the display around me somewhere” Fukuro start to introduce herself.
Rime raised her eyebrow at the statement that was cut short. What's she talking about now? Failure? Failure at what? Wishing that this person finished she almost piped up with a question, but decided to hold off as this newcomer arrived. A deer faunri, and one much taller than the two standing in the road. Why is everyone gathering seemingly randomly around her?
Rime stood quietly as the two briefly discussed the status of the outer city and how it fares. When there was a pause, she took a meek step toward Isabelle and was about to tap her on the shoulder to get her attention, when yet another person approached slowly growing group. As this fourth approached Rime noted that they were rambling to themselves before they finally spoke up as if we were all in a party already.
Rime finally shook herself free of her confusion and proceeded to tap Isabelle on the shoulder. "So, did you need me for something?" She follows her question up with another, this time directed at all three of these strangers. "I am heading toward the coastline to gather, yes. I'm not opposed to going together if that is what everyone is out here to do, I suppose. Strength in numbers is a good idea, considering the nature of our situation and the local wildlife aggressiveness."
Rime gripped her novice staff in one hand as she awkwardly maintained this seemingly out of nowhere conversation. She definitely was not opposed to partying up with others, it's just that this whole gathering was so unexpected and seemingly random that she struggled briefly to wrap her head about the situation. Maybe she should have looked for a group in town before leaving, she thought. That would have made more sense. Although if these people join her it will solve the danger issue that Rime feels exists at all times.
Assertive conversation was right. Alma had thought she was only making light conversation before anything extra came about. Indeed there was more to this as her ears raised then lowered cautiously lowered. A conflict of getting cold feet and trying to figure ways to warm them. On one hand it warmed her to find these people to also be fellow players as accurately suspected. With flowers in hand and gazing between a feline of her race next to a woman with messy dark hair. The impression of the woman with the untamed mane reminded her of a brave feline back at the city. A brave individual in comparison to go out hunting these monsters. She couldn't tell what weapon they had exactly while the obvious caster type cat held a staff as any magic user would. "That's fair. I think I'll try my hand at facing monsters and obtaining their item drops eventually, if monsters work like that here. Helping with small jobs in the city for payment isn't like doing chores but it's nice to know it's much easier to lift some heavy objects with ease." Her voice paused when attempting to gauge what this one was implying. Alma's red eyes looked away to the surrounding open fields that look far too bright for sharing dower thoughts. Maybe a few complaints are okay to share in this situation. "It's been odd. Not used to a body like this or what these extra skills mean for. It's only recently I've found a place that serves real tasting food. So much to take in so suddenly, ya know? When I heard it was relatively safe beyond the city area along the main road was when I thought, hey, checking it out won't be so bad."
Inwardly she wondered if that was good enough or not nearly enough of the right things to say. This girl was easily had more confidence to spare to be going out fighting monsters and the like. "The city is huge so we may have been wandering different parts and just missing each other. There is a chance we may have passed by once or something earlier so I'm sorry if I don't remember seeing you before either. Been having a lot on my mind." Alma smiled faintly but honestly wanted to cry in remembrance of the earlier days of being in Romalia. Finding herself in the day light of a huge city, hysterical people, and listening to it all with these new Faunri racial traits wore the deer out mentally. By the middle of the week had Alma began to start putting some effort into remembering the paths and buildings she's seen. The faces of people as an additional piece of work in minor levels of success. Alma could name less than five people at this point which is rather sad if one of them is mostly 'Old Man' and 'Bartender' making it closer to three names and two titles.
Having said this much did her attention drift to the shy feline caster. This one appeared to be the most hesitant to speak. Was it because Alma approached them suddenly? 'Maybe I overdid it with this body. Thought six would be fairly normal,' she wondered. The choice of antler style may have added a bit much but it seemed like everyone she previously knew were hitting the six foot marker. Unsure of how to address them just yet did a newer voice arrive. Another sure figure arrived on their own sense of rhythm by the way she spoke without filter, however, Alma took her first impressions and set to them aside upon seeing barn owl like wings on their person. There was something of an avian race in the character maker and had assumed it to be just that, a bird type of race to counter balance the land animals. Alma didn't exactly spend a lot of time reading the in game lore when going straight for the character creator.
"Faunri?" Alma knew she was one with the term still freshly sinking into her vocabulary then briefly looked to the girl that first spoke to her. Her head cocked slightly in wonder of what type of animal they were as the outward traits didn't look as obvious to her compared to classic cat ears. The brief wonderment over their owl like wings quickly passed over as Alma quietly pouted with her deer ears lowered. As much as she would have like to be friends with these people, their assumption of being that way because they all picked Faunri race. "We've only just met," she sighed and likely would have been talked over as this owl spread her wings and took the forward stance of joining this unofficial party. 'They could have just introduced themselves normally.' Alma could only sigh again and put the flowers away into her bag after crushing their stalks in outward frustration. Sure, true, she could read the interface and have the imaginary cursor hover over each people to see their name and battle style but that would be better used when they were all across monitors before having actual bodies. Or have at the very least been in a party in the first place to use names off the party list as a point of reference.
In the end though, it wasn't exactly her call on making a party or not when not exactly putting forward a party invitation either. She too was under assumption that the first pair on the road were in a party to have been outside of the city by themselves. For now she contended with fixing her anger. When the feline spoke up that she wasn't against forming a party did Alma agree to do the same. "Oh, so this was all to go gathering. I'm in need of some materials so it would be nice to go as a group. Not all familiar with being this far out from the city though, I think I've said that enough times. Let's hope for a good harvest," Alma attempted to talk it off and made the first move to continue down the road a ways only to kneed down a moment to gather up some familiar looking plants she spotted along the way to here briefly before joining the others for the beach.

[attr=class,xiontext] "Well, when you do want to go out hunting, bring me along. Nothing like going along with a group. Split up the loot evenly of course." She would say with a nod. Just making sure to clarify that, just in case the girl was going to be curious on that matter. Something which she didn't ever feel needed to be said, but well, when you don't know someone. Better to be too cautious than scare them away thinking that it wouldn't work out like that. "But don't you find a job like that boring? Just sitting in the city doing menial tasks?" It's one of the reasons she had fled her life to games anyways. Was she had wanted to get away from a life like that, and would escape into games to do that. So hearing someone had been surviving like that, it would have been like hell for her.
Though, all of her questioning stopped when she talked about a place serving real food. Because well, she remembered the start, when nothing had a taste, and the first time she had gone to eat at someone else's place, and they served real tasting food.... she had definitely eaten more than her fair share that day. Though it was rather kind of them and she did help them out afterwards. "What, you aren't used to have antlers on your head?" She would ask somewhat sarcastically. Hoping that she would respond to it in some way about that or perhaps maybe it was the size thing. Because, to be honest, adjusting to this height had been something that threw her off as well, being considerably shorter in the game than in real life. 'Considerably' being a matter of about half a foot, but well, it makes a difference now that she was having to actually experience it.
Well, it seemed like a fourth person had decided to add into their group. As she would approach and make her presence known about a group of Faunri? Wait, was she implying that they were a group? She figured they kinda were? But it was more like everyone happened to be in the same place at the same time, not like, a premade party or anything like that. Though, she hadn't even thought about it now, but yeah, they actually were all faunri. Which caused her to actually wonder, what was the actual racial splits in the world before and after they had all showed up? She had never thought about it before, but maybe she could get some form of a government going? Make some sort of census? That could certainly help solidify things. Or was there one already? She actually didn't know a ton about that, and would have to look into getting this sort of stuff set up if it wasn't already in place.
Though, her own thoughts were cut short as she suddenly felt a tapping on her shoulder, turning to see it was Ms. Runaway herself. "Yeah, was wondering why you were out, and if you were planning on running away from a monster the first time you saw one again." She would say, rather honestly to the girl. Since well, that was clearly an area the two differed in. Though, she would quickly add in, trying to soften the blow of her statement. "Not that it's a problem. But it seems if we're stuck here, if that's truly something you're interested in, you may have to get used to it. But sure, I could definitely use some materials. Gotta work on tailoring eventually. Clothing isn't gunna make itself." She would say with a grin.
She then realized that she hadn't actually addressed the deer in their group. The one who had first looked at her. "Yes though, the three of us are Faunri. What makes you so surprised about..." She would start to say, before realizing that it was actually probably her. Since well, she had an appearance that almost seemed like a mixture of an Alv and an Antas. "Oh you mean me don't you?" She would ask, somewhat rhetorically, but continuing to answer in her own right. "Yeah, Faunri too. Though I can't tell you how many people normally guess Alv from the ears. Even gotten a few Antas guesses from the red eyes." She would say cracking a smile. She had done it at character creation as a bit of a joke, but well, she had adopted to the appearance rather well. "Yeah Faunri though." She would say finally.
She was ignoring the other girl for now because well, she found it a bit creepy that she had just known her name, and while she recognized that it was totally valid to just use the screen to do that, something about it just still seemed a bit.. disconcerting to her. Like, she could have done it, but it did feel like it lost a bit of the human element to it when you could just know someone's name.

Click on any of the tabs above to go through the plugin configuration process!
You can access this menu at any time by clicking on the icon in the bottom right bar (may not be applicable if you're on Forums.net), or you can disable the welcome window and/or the icon by going to Plugins > Manage > Custom Mini-Profile Creator and changing the Show Help option.
This step is essential as it gives the plugin everything it needs on the page to get as much profile information as possible.
To make the profile variables work you'll need to add a new line to the very end of Themes > Layout Templates > Mini-Profile and paste the code below on it. The code should be placed completely outside of the mini-profile, so if you're using the default mini-profile template this will be after the very last closing </div> tag. This needs to be done on every theme you have the plugin enabled on as the template is theme-specific.
If your mini-profile template is already customized and you've hit the variable limit for your template you're free to remove any lines from the code below if they contain information that you don't plan on using. For example, if you have no plans to ever add a user's IP to their mini-profile for staff reference you can remove <div class="mp-info ip">$[user.ip]</div> from the code and everything else will still work just fine.
Once you've added the HTML from the Layout Templates tab you're ready to move on to building your mini-profiles. If you want to get going and try some out now or you're not very adept at HTML, CSS, or Javascript, worry not! This plugin includes some examples for you to try out. You're free to skip to the Custom Profile Fields tab and read over this tab later when you're ready to build your own.
Here's a quick rundown of each of the components in Plugins > Manage > Custom Mini-Profile Creator:
Name This is the name you'll be adding to your custom profile field dropdown once you've finished coding the mini-profile. Pretty self-explanatory. Make sure this name is unique from every other name you use for your mini-profiles or you'll end up overwriting the earlier ones in the list.
HTML This is the HTML that will go inside your mini-profile. You can use just about any HTML tag here so long as it's appropriate for where the mini-profile is showing on the page. Please refrain from using <style> or <script> tags here. You have the next two sections for that! Also, remember that mini-profiles can show multiple times on the same page, so you shouldn't add ID attributes to any of your elements here. Two elements on the same page cannot have the same ID per HTML standards.
CSS This is where you'll place what would normally go in your forum's style sheet or what would normally be between <style> tags. Try to code your mini-profile's HTML in a way that will allow you to target it specifically with your selectors. For example, you can surround all of the content in your HTML with a <div> element with a class and target that class and its child elements specifically with your CSS. That way you don't accidentally target every mini-profile on the page with CSS that was meant for the one you're building. One more thing: The forum theme's CSS still applies beforehand, so your mini-profile may look right in one theme but not in another. The best way to circumvent this is to define as many styles as you can to override the theme's CSS.
Javascript Anything that normally goes between <script> tags will go here. This one's a bit tricky since you'll obviously want to target the custom mini-profile specifically. Luckily there's an easy way to do that. In your statements you can use the $(this) variable to target the mini-profile if you're coding using jQuery. Otherwise, if you only plan on using standard Javascript you can target $(this)[0] instead.
Once you've finished building your mini-profiles it's finally time to add them to the Edit Profile page for use! To enable selection of custom mini-profiles you'll first need to add two specific custom profile fields in Members > Custom Profile Fields in your forum's admin area:
Mini-Profile Theme
Staff Mini-Profile Theme
Mini-Profile Theme is for mini-profiles that are designed for member use. You can set the Who Can Edit option for this field to Staff With Power if you only want staff to be able to choose mini-profiles for users. Otherwise, if you want members to freely be able to choose their own mini-profiles you can choose Members and Staff With Power.
Staff Mini-Profile Theme is for mini-profiles designed specifically for staff use. This field is completely optional.
Set the type for both of these fields as Drop Down Selection. Click on the (View/Edit) link to add mini-profile names to each of these fields.
If you've just installed this plugin you should have three different mini-profiles already installed by default: Example 1, Example 2, and Example 3. You can add these to your dropdowns to test them out and see the plugin in action.
If you're having trouble getting this plugin to work despite following the instructions in the previous tabs you may want to check that each of your themes meets the prerequisites below in Themes > Layout Templates > Mini-Profile.
First, ensure that opening tag of your mini-profile template includes the $[miniprofile_class] variable in its class. On the default ProBoards theme it should look something like this:
<div class="$[miniprofile_class]">
Next, make sure that the default {foreach} loop for custom fields is present inside your mini-profile. It doesn't need to be visible, so you're free to add it inside a hidden element if you don't plan on displaying it or if it would mess up the appearance of your own custom template.
Beyond that you can do whatever you like to the mini-profile template for the most part and it shouldn't negatively impact the plugin.
The following is a list of available variables for use in the HTML section of the mini-profile creator and their definitions. Adding any of these to a mini-profile will generate the content described in its definition in place of the variable so long as the information that variable outputs is visible to you.
To reference your forum's custom profile fields you can use $[user.customfieldname], substituting "customfieldname" with your custom field's name. You'll need to type the name in all lowercase with no spaces and only use characters A-Z and 0-9.
For example, Mini-Profile Theme becomes $[user.miniprofiletheme]. This will output the value of the custom field. In the case of this example, it'll be the name of the mini-profile theme you've chosen in your profile.
IMPORTANT NOTE: These will only work if you followed the steps in the Installation tab of this window on each of your themes. Any themes that do not include the template code specified there will not have these variables replaced in the mini-profile.

You can utilize the $(this) variable in the Javascript component to target the mini-profile <div> element. For example, if you wanted to add a class to the mini-profile you can use:
$(this).addClass('class-name-here');
Profile variables can also be used in the Javascript component in this plugin. In Javascript the value undefined is used to signify that a value doesn't exist for the variable you've specified. With this in mind you can use profile variables in Javascript conditional statements within the plugin similar to how they're used in the actual layout templates section of the admin area.
if(variable) will only run if the variable you specify has a value.
if(!variable) will only run if the variable you specify has no value.
Example 1 (variable has value):
if(user.group){
$(this).find('.group').show();
}
If the user has their group displayed in their profile the above Javascript would make the HTML below visible if you had it hidden with CSS.
