Gaia Reborn
Gaia Reborn, the hottest MMORPG of the last decade, has seen millions of players experience its unique world - a combination of fantasy and reality. When Gaia Reborn was a game, one goal was to make the game world a one-half scale model of the real world. This pursuit was known as the Half-Gaia Project, and it is one of the aspects which led to Gaia Reborn becoming such a popular virtual world. With regional servers having unique areas, quests, cities, and monsters, it wasn't uncommon for people to create alternate characters on other servers to experience what felt like an entirely new game.
Ten years after the game's launch, millions of players have joined and created countless characters across the many servers. Now, with the release of the latest expansion, Pioneers of Arcadia, many are getting ready to begin new adventures in the new Italian server, exploring the new region corresponding to Italy, known in Gaia as Italia. Characters would have to start from fresh in this new world, but Italy would finally get its own piece of this world.
Countless players created their characters, logged in with excitement fueling their hands as the cursor swept across the screen, and then... darkness... Everything was black, and as their eyes opened, the players found themselves in the streets of an unfamiliar city. Looking around to survey their surroundings, many players realized this city was not so new after all. While desolate and ruined, the architecture conquered by vines and greenery, this city was unmistakably Rome, but at the same time, it was not. Finding themselves in the bodies of their characters, trapped in the world of Gaia Reborn, players are left to adapt to their new reality in this fantasy world.
“I know that Sido asked me to help him out with something but I never expected for him to ask me how to pick up girls.” Steel said to himself with a bit of a sigh as he waited near the town's square. “What’s more, he kinda ran off after confirming the details so I couldn't ask him why. Not like I have any idea on how to do that...." Indeed, despite what most people, especially in Japan would think, Yuuto Hayashi did not have an active romance life. Or rather, he had none at all. This was because of two things. The first was that almost all of his free time away from idol work was spent gaming. Second was the paparazzi making any such relationship a pain in the butt with how hungry they were for clickbait news. It was a wonder they didn't find his apartment yet at the time of him supposedly vanishing though that may have been due to him not living in the upper class areas most celebrities lived in.
Regardless, Steel would give it his best to help his horny (both metaphorically and literally) friend improve his chances with the opposite gender. He had enough experiences with that much at least. He just hoped that his reputation didn't overshadow Sido when it was about leveling up his social skills. He had been doing some performances around the area lately after all. "Now then, where is he? He's late to the time he proposed."
SidO walked through the streets, nearing the Romalian square he wanted to meet Steel. Whew. I hope my man's not too mad at me for being late..
The townsquare was bustling with people and noise. Merchants were bartering. Crowds were passing by partaking in communes and enganging in many activities. Children were playing. Adolescents were meandering around. Young men and women were doing various things and the elderly were snoozing, in what was a pretty peaceful and ordinary day. And one where SidO was about to answer his calling...
He spots Steel in the distance, calling out to him. He also waves as he walks toward him. "Yo Steel! Wassup?"

Thankfully, it didn't take much longer before Sido had arrived. He wasn't that late honestly so Steel was too lazy to comment on it though he hoped that the younger man wouldn't keep his actual dates waiting.... That was presuming that Sido succeeded tonight. He wondered how this would go as well as who they were targeting. Lander women and Adventurer women were two very different beasts simply due to a difference in values.
"Yo." Steel replied casually. Now that he wasn't wearing his gear, he looked less intimidating and more laid back than usual. "So what was this about picking up girls? You didn't quite explain why before running off earlier. Is Olivia not doing it for you anymore? Her poor heart." He added in a bit of teasing at the end since most of the times he's seen Sido, Olivia was with him and that resulted in seeing plenty of glomps from her to him.
SidO stands beside Steel and gives him a puzzled look. "Picking up girls? I said that?.. Huh.. Sorry my memory's really bad."
He looks down surprised and thinks. What the fuck? Damn, did i get drunk on some ale or something one time? Ah well. I'm with Steel it shouldn't be too bad if we really did that right?
He takes a look around. He sees women, young to old, but not illegal, of many varities. He turns to Steel with a nervous expression Ah shit. What did i just get myself into...
"I was thinkin we just hang out or something but picking up girls doesn't sound too bad.. And Olivia? eh.. He looked away for a moment, meandering in thought. Heh. Heh. Olivia was something else.. to my back.. Alright.. He turns to Steel "What're you sayin. She's cool, but that close affection was only bodily harm"
"Yeah you were cursing me for being popular and I quote 'save some girls for the rest of us!'. Then you asked me to share my secrets in the art of flirting before running off. Well, I'm not too surprised you forgot. You drank way too much last night when you challenged me to a drinking competition. You forgot that I'm a chef and can make myself immune to intoxication." Steel said with a small sigh. "Well I suppose that explains why you ran out suddenly after suggesting this. You went out to puke..."
"You seem pretty hesitant though. You sure you're okay with this?" While Steel couldn't read Sido's thoughts a look of regret had appeared on his face as he looked at various women around them.
"I mean besides today, I've never seen you without her. Even last night, she was the one helping you with your drunken ass. Also she gives you plenty of affection." Steel continued his teasing but left it at that.
SidO listens to Steel's explanation while cringing. Ah yes I really did make a stupid move challenging a chef.. Man I gotta lay off the drinking.
He looks at Steel with a look of hesitation. Ahh man. I am actually not feeling very okay about this.. But I did ask him even if I was drink and well I guess I kinda owe him since I lost the drinking competition. "Man. I'm a dumbass ass. But. I did ask you, and it'd be weird if I backed out now.. And Olivia again? Yea I'm grateful.." He tries to put up a look of confidence but wavers. "Alright. How do we do this. The picking up girls part?"

Steel felt sympathy for Sido who cringed as he was told about his drunken exploits. Perhaps now wasn't the time to mention he also would have stripped off his pants and peed in the bar in front of everybody if Steel and Oliva weren't there to stop him. Maybe they should go to a different bar for a week or two.
"If you're really sure about this...." Steel wondered why he wanted to go through with this when he clearly didn't look comfortable. But the Vanguard supposed he'd find out later. At the very least this would make for some good teasing material later. "Well step 1, you actually gotta approach a girl. Can't exactly pick up girls without talking to them after all."
Steel was bsing this as easily as he breathed. While it's not like he didn't have practice with the opposite gender, he's never gone out of his way to flirt with a girl and take her on a date. Hopefully a combination of common sense and remembering what worked in real life would do the trick. "Got a girl you want to try and talk to?"
SidO turned away from Steel to look down, slightly less nervous because of his advice but also worried. Yea.. This is what I was dreading.. I don't know how long its been since I talked to a girl back in the real world.. And now I have to do it in Gaia.. Great.. This is what I get for cooping myself and playing games all day instead of going outside to socialize.. Even though I was in college..
He took in Steel's question, and looked at the women in the area. He saw a good variety of every Panpaidi And someone I want to talk to. Well if going by the alleged perceptions of Antas that the other Lander races have from the lore.. And since I can't tell whether someone's an Adventure or Lander just by looking at them.. My best bet would be an Antas girl.. He turned to Steel. "Ehh.. How about an Antas?.. And also. Talking to girls.. Right. How do i do that again? Its been a very long time since I've done that back in our world.."
"A fellow Antas? Ah right... When this was a game, it was simply part of flavor text and some story dialogue but now...." Steel said more to himself as he pondered on it. Before they got trapped here, NPCs in town wouldn't discriminate based on race but that wouldn't be the case here with the People of the Land being very much alive. "Yeah, that might be a good first choice...."
"How to talk to girls? You talk to Oliva all the time. Just act like... One moment." Steel stopped himself before fast walking and then running in the direction of the main road towards a young woman who had accidentally dropped something and was now bending over to pick it up. At this point, Sido would be able to hear shouts about an out of control horse and it was coming right for the woman.
"Pardon me." Steel said calmly as he reached the girl despite the horse coming at them. He picked the girl up in a princess carry and used the skill Vanguard Dive to jump far from the horse's path and back to Sido. "Are you alright?" He got a meek nod in response which prompted a smile from the warrior. "Thank goodness. It would have been a shame if that pretty face of yours got scarred." The young woman's face gained a tint of red as Steel set her gently back on her feet. He gave her another smile and walked back to Sido.
"As I was saying, you talk to Oliva all the time. Just pretend you're talking to her." Steel continued as if nothing noteworthy happened. "Oh, and lesson 2, be aware of your surroundings."
SidO looked at Steel as he gave advice. Yea.. I don't take any chances with interactions with other non-Antas Landers if I can for something like this.. Right. Olivia? And just act like what? Myself.. Well..
He then heard a noise in the distance, and looked to see that it was a fast approaching horse. A horse?
Before he could see where the horse was heading he stared in astonishment as Steel quickly go on his way.. To save the lady in the horse's path in a flash. Amazing. He just went from 0 to a 100 in the span of a few seconds. Good job for using the golden opportunity buddy. Should've asked her to stay the night with you at some inn.
He watched as Steel put the lady down and observed her response. Yea that's what about what I'd expect to hear from an everyday Lander. He listened to him as he was walking back toward him. "Right. That jump was really impressive by the way. But when I talk to Olivia its either business or adventuring related. And when we do have other interactions she's the one's who's mostly making the move.. And as for surroundings? What do you think are the chances of a situation like yours happening again here?"
word count: 215 total wc: 215 + 183 + 117 + 145 + 110
"That jump was nothing special. All Vanguards have that skill built into them as a default." Steel replied humbly. He really didn't see this to be such a big deal. "I mean, even if it's just business, you're still casual with her. Just gotta keep that same casualness when talking to a girl."
"Oh I don't believe we'll be seeing something like that horse for a while but keeping in mind your surroundings is still very much a helpful tool to keep in your arsenal." As he said this, Steel caught a flower pot that was about to fall on Sido's head. It had accidentally knocked over by a girl on the second floor of the building they were currently in front of. Said girl had rushed down and was apologizing profusely for the mistake. Steel waved it off with a smile and worked his magic on yet another girl unintentionally. Once she went back inside, he continued.
"It can also be used when talking to others. Paying attention to little things on their person can start a conversation topic and paying attention to how they react can help you figure out how to continue the conversation or decide not to push your luck."
He listens to Steel explain his tact. Right. Right. Casualness.
He watches as he catches a pot from above, sees a girl come to apologize, and Steel's suave response. Nicely done. Saved me from brain damage and woo'd the girl. The RNG gods are really with him today.
"Right. Keep my surroundings in mind and be casual got it. Nice catch by the way."
He looks at a female Antas in the distance. Ah man. Here goes nothing.. "Well here. I go." He turns away from Steel and starts walking toward the Antas.
If this fails. I can just go take a walk with Steel and get a pity drink or something. If it succeds. I'll probably have to find a way to leave her eventually.

"More that you need to pay more attention so you don't get hit by any more potted plants in the future." Steel said with a teasing smile. "But yeah, tldr, always good to have an eye for the details."
It wasn't long before Sido spotted a female Antas who was reasonably attractive. With nervousness in his voice, he made clear his target and walked towards her. Steel wished him well but then began to think to himself that before he left, he should have clued him in on openings for a conversation.
To make sure that he wouldn't get in the way, he decided to get out of the female Antas's sight but still close enough to listen in on the conversation. "Do your best Sido." He whispered to himself from his chosen hiding place.
SidO walked toward a female Antas sitting on a crate. What was that about potted plants Steel? Yea they suck for sure.
As he got closer to the Antas, he could see her status and was adequately surprised. Let's see.. Antas. Female for sure.. Paladin.. And that name!? Hexexexblade887!?.. Ah.. Nice name.. This has to be an Adventurer for sure..
He walked close to the Antas and stopped. She noticed him and turned her head to face him in silence. He spokes with some reluctance. "Uh. Hi there. What're you up to?"
The Antas has a blank expression and replies. "Oh nothing. Just sightseeing."
SidO tries to advance. "Right so if you weren't busy.. Would you-"
The Antas quickly stops him in the middle of his sentance. "Are you trying to ask me out on a date? Sorry. I'm not interested." With that she turned away from SidO and went back to observing the square and area.
An explosion of shock ran through him and he accepted the response. "Ah. Right. Sorry for bothering you."
He walked away dejected. Shit that was bad..

Steel couldn't help but internally cringe when Sido started with 'What're you up to?' as an opening line. This wasn't one of your bros that you were talking with! This was a complete stranger! And the girl didn't look all that comfortable either. Abort Sido, abort! Such thoughts Steel couldn't help but think as Sido alas had continued on with his attempt.
Steel could only watch his charge get rejected before he could even finish asking her out. Sido looked devastated as a result. At least this one didn't comment on his race. Steel left his hiding spot and caught up to the rejected Sido. "Don't worry about it too much. Not everybody gets it right on the first try. I definitely sucked at it at first." Granted, he got away with it as his persona for the media was cool and collected so any of his slip ups were thought of as part of an aloof personality rather than an awkward personality. "You doing okay?"
Welcome to the help dialog for the Custom Mini-Profile Creator plugin!
Click on any of the tabs above to go through the plugin configuration process!
You can access this menu at any time by clicking on the icon in the bottom right bar (may not be applicable if you're on Forums.net), or you can disable the welcome window and/or the icon by going to Plugins > Manage > Custom Mini-Profile Creator and changing the Show Help option.
This step is essential as it gives the plugin everything it needs on the page to get as much profile information as possible.
To make the profile variables work you'll need to add a new line to the very end of Themes > Layout Templates > Mini-Profile and paste the code below on it. The code should be placed completely outside of the mini-profile, so if you're using the default mini-profile template this will be after the very last closing </div> tag. This needs to be done on every theme you have the plugin enabled on as the template is theme-specific.
If your mini-profile template is already customized and you've hit the variable limit for your template you're free to remove any lines from the code below if they contain information that you don't plan on using. For example, if you have no plans to ever add a user's IP to their mini-profile for staff reference you can remove <div class="mp-info ip">$[user.ip]</div> from the code and everything else will still work just fine.
Once you've added the HTML from the Layout Templates tab you're ready to move on to building your mini-profiles. If you want to get going and try some out now or you're not very adept at HTML, CSS, or Javascript, worry not! This plugin includes some examples for you to try out. You're free to skip to the Custom Profile Fields tab and read over this tab later when you're ready to build your own.
Here's a quick rundown of each of the components in Plugins > Manage > Custom Mini-Profile Creator:
Name This is the name you'll be adding to your custom profile field dropdown once you've finished coding the mini-profile. Pretty self-explanatory. Make sure this name is unique from every other name you use for your mini-profiles or you'll end up overwriting the earlier ones in the list.
HTML This is the HTML that will go inside your mini-profile. You can use just about any HTML tag here so long as it's appropriate for where the mini-profile is showing on the page. Please refrain from using <style> or <script> tags here. You have the next two sections for that! Also, remember that mini-profiles can show multiple times on the same page, so you shouldn't add ID attributes to any of your elements here. Two elements on the same page cannot have the same ID per HTML standards.
CSS This is where you'll place what would normally go in your forum's style sheet or what would normally be between <style> tags. Try to code your mini-profile's HTML in a way that will allow you to target it specifically with your selectors. For example, you can surround all of the content in your HTML with a <div> element with a class and target that class and its child elements specifically with your CSS. That way you don't accidentally target every mini-profile on the page with CSS that was meant for the one you're building. One more thing: The forum theme's CSS still applies beforehand, so your mini-profile may look right in one theme but not in another. The best way to circumvent this is to define as many styles as you can to override the theme's CSS.
Javascript Anything that normally goes between <script> tags will go here. This one's a bit tricky since you'll obviously want to target the custom mini-profile specifically. Luckily there's an easy way to do that. In your statements you can use the $(this) variable to target the mini-profile if you're coding using jQuery. Otherwise, if you only plan on using standard Javascript you can target $(this)[0] instead.
Once you've finished building your mini-profiles it's finally time to add them to the Edit Profile page for use! To enable selection of custom mini-profiles you'll first need to add two specific custom profile fields in Members > Custom Profile Fields in your forum's admin area:
Mini-Profile Theme
Staff Mini-Profile Theme
Mini-Profile Theme is for mini-profiles that are designed for member use. You can set the Who Can Edit option for this field to Staff With Power if you only want staff to be able to choose mini-profiles for users. Otherwise, if you want members to freely be able to choose their own mini-profiles you can choose Members and Staff With Power.
Staff Mini-Profile Theme is for mini-profiles designed specifically for staff use. This field is completely optional.
Set the type for both of these fields as Drop Down Selection. Click on the (View/Edit) link to add mini-profile names to each of these fields.
If you've just installed this plugin you should have three different mini-profiles already installed by default: Example 1, Example 2, and Example 3. You can add these to your dropdowns to test them out and see the plugin in action.
If you're having trouble getting this plugin to work despite following the instructions in the previous tabs you may want to check that each of your themes meets the prerequisites below in Themes > Layout Templates > Mini-Profile.
First, ensure that opening tag of your mini-profile template includes the $[miniprofile_class] variable in its class. On the default ProBoards theme it should look something like this:
<div class="$[miniprofile_class]">
Next, make sure that the default {foreach} loop for custom fields is present inside your mini-profile. It doesn't need to be visible, so you're free to add it inside a hidden element if you don't plan on displaying it or if it would mess up the appearance of your own custom template.
Beyond that you can do whatever you like to the mini-profile template for the most part and it shouldn't negatively impact the plugin.
The following is a list of available variables for use in the HTML section of the mini-profile creator and their definitions. Adding any of these to a mini-profile will generate the content described in its definition in place of the variable so long as the information that variable outputs is visible to you.
To reference your forum's custom profile fields you can use $[user.customfieldname], substituting "customfieldname" with your custom field's name. You'll need to type the name in all lowercase with no spaces and only use characters A-Z and 0-9.
For example, Mini-Profile Theme becomes $[user.miniprofiletheme]. This will output the value of the custom field. In the case of this example, it'll be the name of the mini-profile theme you've chosen in your profile.
IMPORTANT NOTE: These will only work if you followed the steps in the Installation tab of this window on each of your themes. Any themes that do not include the template code specified there will not have these variables replaced in the mini-profile.

You can utilize the $(this) variable in the Javascript component to target the mini-profile <div> element. For example, if you wanted to add a class to the mini-profile you can use:
$(this).addClass('class-name-here');
Profile variables can also be used in the Javascript component in this plugin. In Javascript the value undefined is used to signify that a value doesn't exist for the variable you've specified. With this in mind you can use profile variables in Javascript conditional statements within the plugin similar to how they're used in the actual layout templates section of the admin area.
if(variable) will only run if the variable you specify has a value.
if(!variable) will only run if the variable you specify has no value.
Example 1 (variable has value):
if(user.group){
$(this).find('.group').show();
}
If the user has their group displayed in their profile the above Javascript would make the HTML below visible if you had it hidden with CSS.
