Gaia Reborn
Gaia Reborn, the hottest MMORPG of the last decade, has seen millions of players experience its unique world - a combination of fantasy and reality. When Gaia Reborn was a game, one goal was to make the game world a one-half scale model of the real world. This pursuit was known as the Half-Gaia Project, and it is one of the aspects which led to Gaia Reborn becoming such a popular virtual world. With regional servers having unique areas, quests, cities, and monsters, it wasn't uncommon for people to create alternate characters on other servers to experience what felt like an entirely new game.
Ten years after the game's launch, millions of players have joined and created countless characters across the many servers. Now, with the release of the latest expansion, Pioneers of Arcadia, many are getting ready to begin new adventures in the new Italian server, exploring the new region corresponding to Italy, known in Gaia as Italia. Characters would have to start from fresh in this new world, but Italy would finally get its own piece of this world.
Countless players created their characters, logged in with excitement fueling their hands as the cursor swept across the screen, and then... darkness... Everything was black, and as their eyes opened, the players found themselves in the streets of an unfamiliar city. Looking around to survey their surroundings, many players realized this city was not so new after all. While desolate and ruined, the architecture conquered by vines and greenery, this city was unmistakably Rome, but at the same time, it was not. Finding themselves in the bodies of their characters, trapped in the world of Gaia Reborn, players are left to adapt to their new reality in this fantasy world.
It was a nice little village slightly off the road to Perelgius Johanna had found her way to. The inhabitants had welcomed her in a very kind and warm manner, but had become less interested in her after a few days, which was not something Johanna complained about. While it had made it easy to find out more about this place, it had severely hindered her ability to properly observe them and experience their story.
Travelers and merchants frequenting the trade routes between Perelgius in the north and Romalia in the south seldomly came here or so she had been told. The village was named Karda, mainly lived off of a small quarry to its northwest and was surrounded by a few acres of farmland sustaining the place. The small village was apparently the closest settlement to what the people around Romalia called the northern plague lands. The area was located in a bulge at the borders between Romalia and the Enochlian Pontificate to the north. While it had once been a well populated area belonging to Romalia’s sphere of influence, it was now a mostly abandoned place where ghost towns slowly but steadily collapsed in on themselves and untended to farmlands in the hills had degraded into badlands. According to the locals it had been hit hard by a big plague over a hundred years ago, that completely wiped out its population by either killing the inhabitants or forcing them to leave. The people of Karda seemed to be rather afraid to go there. She had heard some stories of young men exploring these plague lands only to go missing or come back with accounts of the dead still inhabiting their old homes. These stories of course sounded exciting and had caught Johanna’s interest. Maybe someday she would visit these lands and ghost towns herself, however, inside the village something even more exciting was going on.
The day she had made the decision to abandon the large road towards Perelgius for a smaller overgrown path towards this small little village had been the day after the third incident. In the time span of only a few weeks three otherwise healthy villagers had died gruesome deaths in their homes at night. It had been quite a sight to find the village she had almost randomly wandered into in such an uproar. Had she set some kind of trigger going here or had she had a lot of luck with her timing? Either way, she had decided to stay and watch this small scale story unfold.
Now, because it was day time, Johanna was leaning against a tree close to the village’s entrance and gazed at the path leading back to the road connecting Romalia and Perelgius. There was probably still some grass in her disheveled but short dark hair, after she had taken a comfortable afternoon nap in the shadow of the very same tree. She was sure, that it wouldn’t take much more time for the protagonists of this story to arrive. Word Count: 503 Total Word Count: 503 Tags: SidOSteelOlivia
"Olivia, how much farther till we reach Karda?" Steel asked his party member with the map as the three of them continued down. SidO and Olivia, two acquaintances/friends had heard of some rumors involving disappearing people at their destination. Steel just happened to pass by them and the two of them recruited him. Steel himself had heard rumors a while back but they sounded more like ghost stories people would tell for a laugh. But now it seemed much more serious. Some Landers had relatives in Karda that went missing. That alone made Steel agree immediately to join this expedition. He felt it rather fortunate that their team was rather balanced. A tank/attacker, a healer, and a supporter. Though that's also why he didn't have the map. What sort of tank would he be if he was too focused on where they were and not on the look out for enemies? They already ran into a few groups on the way. Made him wish they had a DPS party member but this was good enough.
"And I know I agreed immediately but I'm not totally in the know of what's going on over there outside of some people missing. You two know anything more? You're the ones that approached me after all." His first instinct to help people had overridden his usual wish to be lazy and hang back. That backfired. Wanting justice and to save people was good and all but charging in without thinking was stupid. Well at least he had the time to ask on the way when they weren't battling. Something that happened every five minutes up until just a bit ago so there wasn't much time for a briefing. "What the heck is going on over in Karda..." He half muttered to himself as he thought of the multiple possibilities.
Olivia looked at the map with confusion .... ''Ah i was holding it upsidedown oppsss'' she inspected the map once again ''we will be apporaching the entrance ofKarda very soon steel!'' then she gave steel a thumbs up and ask if he needed anything to eat or healing ''need any healing or food?!'' she looked over to sid0 wondering if he was hungry?, Walking on Olivia opened up her player menu to make sure she had all the iteams she needed. then she thought what was actul going on in Karda? but then she foucused her mind on the map and the road ahead.
She made sure she had brought extra healing iteams and food and water incase they were going to be at the village for a long time, she also thought why not make some cookies before the trip '' also would you like one of my cookies i made if your into sweet foods'' she asked steel and sido with a smile.
SidO strolled with Steel and Olivia. He turned to Olivia, "Nah. I don't need food or healing yet." He looked at Steel to answer his question. "There's rumours about people going missing and getting killed in that town." He paused and then continued. "We're probably gonna get caught up in some shit if we stay too long. But I shouldn't be talking since I wanted to investigate."
He looked to his front, contemplating. Yea this could get messy. Hopefully we can heal and buff our way through any trouble. Noticing the entrance to Karda, he increased his pace and headed toward it. "Come on. Let's go." words: 106
Some time passed before Johanna could see a group of three people approaching the entrance of Karda and by circumstance the tree she was leaning against. A heavy armored and muscular human, probably a vanguard, lead two mages down the overgrown path. One of which appeared to be a fox girl with blue hair and pink strands and the other one seemed to be a very human-like Antas. “Druid and Enchanter”, Johanna concluded confidently based upon their choice of race. She slowly got up on her legs not minding the leaves which had fallen into her hair and the grass caught in the joints of her armor. Finally the protagonists she had wanted to observe had arrived, although she would have had no problem waiting for another few days. Maybe another incident would have occurred by then. Another fresh corpse with an unknown cause of death would have spiced things up a little more and it would have spared Johanna from a lot of explaining she would have to do for these protagonists to be even able to begin the story. For some odd reason the villagers had already buried the bodies, not minding the necessity of examining them for a true mystery to play out. Either the game developers did not account for protagonists arriving this late or they were really into exhuming corpses. At least the scenes of the incidents remained somewhat untouched.
Johanna patiently waited for the vanguard, druid and enchanter to pass her and the tree, so that she could inconspicuously follow the group, all while being directly in their line of sight. It did not really cross her mind, that these adventurers might acknowledge her existence and speak to her.
"I'm fine on food for now Olivia. Perhaps we can eat the cookies later. We just ate lunch an hour ago after all. Was it snack time already?" Steel said with amusement in his tone in response to the excitement in the young woman's voice while she offered healing and food. "And I don't want you overstraining yourself down the road you hear me? I still have most of my HP. No need to waste your MP over such a small amount. conserve it for when we enter combat." His current HP was currently around 90% which would suffice for now. Not to mention being out of battle meant hp regeneration.
"Are the townsfolk found dead in their homes? Or were they found outside the town?" Steel asked Sid0 to gain more information. The more he had, the better. "Perhaps we will need to investigate signs of breakage or struggle." It was then he could feel the presence of somebody watching him. However, he waited to confront the person while not giving away he noticed something.
"Oh, I'm already expecting trouble. I'll make sure to protect you two so I'll be counting on your support." He said with a small smile. This smile then turned into something more neutral as he stopped and turned around to see a woman following them. Another player at that.
"Due to the nature of my work IRL, I've become quite sensitive to the presence of people following me. You wouldn't know how many times somebody tried to follow me to my house. And well, plate armor isn't exactly the most silent of equipment." Steel said to the stranger. He spoke with an amicable tone, perhaps even a joking one but he was ready to fight if need be. "So if I may ask the lovely lady in front of me, why are you following us?"
Olivia noded to steel and became more focused than she was *Ok i will get my head in the game and Focus on finding the village!* She turned around for a second to monch on a cookie,Olivia noticed a lady following she thought about what do to but just shruged it off and focused on the map. Steel smiled at Olivia saying he trusts that they will support him when they go into battle, Olivia blushed but then smiled back with a thumbs up *Ofcourse steel i will support you and sid0 till i pass out!* she turned around again to monch on a cookie.as they kept walking an idea popped into Olivias head, she walked a bit slower till she was behind sid0 and B o o m she Pounced onto his back glomping him with her body *hehe I've got you Now sid0!*
as Olivia was on sid0s back Steel was looking cautiously at the woman in front.. Steel asked the woman question about why she was following them? Olivia wondering the same a while back but thought nothing of it *would you like a cookie stranger? is that why your following us?* Olivia nervously utterd
SidO looked down, and thought for a moment about Steel's Inquiry. Where did the townspeople go? Good question. I have no clue though. Maybe they were kidnapped? Killed by some creature? Or worse?.. He then looked at Steel to affirm his commitment to the party, replying after Olivia. "Support? You got it man-" But was assailed by Olivia's sudden pounce on him from the back, before he could finish. "OWh!-"
He lifted his head away to loosen Olivia's grip on him, and to get away from her chest. "Olivia. What're you doing?-" But again, was interrupted by the appearance of a new armored figure nearby. He joined Olivia and Steel in confronting the new arrival, waving at them warily. "Uh- Hello."
The group of adventurers passed Johanna seemingly without noticing her and continued their way into the village. As she had expected, the vanguard in front acted as their leader by first stirring the conversation from food to combat and then asking the enchanter about more information on the homicides. The enchanter himself seemed more like the silent and thoughtful character of the group taking a long time to not really give an answer. Or maybe he was simply preoccupied by having to deal with the goofball of the group, which turned out to be the Faunri girl, who had suddenly jumped at his back. For some reason they already knew something had happened in Karda, although they did not seem to know anything about the details of the incidents. Johanna vaguely remembered one of the citizens leaving for Romalia right in the morning after the second night she had spent here as well as their annoyed silence, after she had asked, why they were leaving.
She only had little time to observe the newly found protagonists of this story, because soon after she had started following them, their leader turned around to confront her: “Due to the nature of my work IRL, I've become quite sensitive to the presence of people following me. You wouldn't know how many times somebody tried to follow me to my house. And well, plate armor isn't exactly the most silent of equipment. So if I may ask the lovely lady in front of me, why are you following us?” His words sounded kind, but were betrayed by his wary eyes. Yes, he was definitely the leader of the group. Before Johanna could answer, she was greeted by the druid and enchanter as well. The fox girl asked, whether she was following them because of her cookies. Now that they had confronted her, she would not be able to simply observe them anymore from afar, so she used the opportunity to make a step in front of each one of them to muster them properly from head to toe. In a brilliant idea to make twice as much use of the present situation, she looked deep into the fox girl’s eyes, said “Yes, please.” and put forth one of her hands awaiting a cookie.
Only then she turned back to the vanguard. “I intended to quietly observe your upcoming adventure, Steel and friends”, she answered honestly using the name she had overheard from their conversation and tilted her head in confusion. “You are going to investigate the incidents in Karda, aren’t you? I’ve waited for a pretty long time now for the protagonists of this story to arrive. I wonder why you took so long. Did you get delayed? Probably the developers scripted it this way, so there would be enough victims and therefore clues?” She spaced out for a moment and thought about the different possibilities and potential author intentions.
“Oh. I almost forgot: Hello, SidO. My name is Johanna, nice to meet you.” Words: 500 Total Word Count: 1288 Tags: SteelOliviaSidO
"It's always better to assume the worst when dealing with the unknown. Better to be overcautious than underprepared." Steel said in response to Sido's thoughts on the matter. "So let us presume the culprit is killing or at the very least taking the victims away for some purpose before leaving them for dead." When Oliva jumped onto Sido's back, Steel couldn't help but let out a short chuckle. "You two get along real well don't you?"
His teammates didn't take as well to their short term stalker and looked to be a few steps from becoming nervous wrecks. Steel felt like facepalming here at their timid responses but decided against it, keeping himself up as both a physical and metaphorical shield in between his party members and the newcomer. Their stalker responded, requesting the cookie that Olivia had offered, something that made Steel raise an eyebrow before actually answering.
It turns out this girl was a weirdo herself. She wanted to be an observer and thought everything was according to some script? Was she really making light of what was going on? People were dying here and she waited off to the side! Unlike Adventurers, People of the Land died when they were killed. It lowkey irritated him. If he wasn't trained to hide his real thoughts and emotions, his smile would have been replaced with a frown. "What do you mean by protagonists Miss Johanna? Aren't we all the protagonists of our own lives?" He said with his usual smile. "As for the developers, I don't think they had anything to do with it. Pretty sure they're practically nonexistent in our situation or else we would have been able to log out of here a long time ago or at least got some notification. It's merely due to a lack of fast transportation and having to deal with evil fantasy creatures trying to kill us on any path we take outside of town. Makes me almost miss traffic jams or crowded trains. Hahaha" He added in a gentle laugh to remain amicable.
Olivia chuckled herself when she saw steel laughing at what she just did to sid0 ,Olivia got off sid0s back and grabbed a cookie out of her bag and placed it in Womans hands ''Enjoy the cookie! also my name is Olivia nice to meet you!'' Olivia smiled while giving the cookie to the woman,Olivia looked up and down at the womans armor ''Wow thats some cool looking armor you must be a tank class? also! may i know your name?''Olivia also wonderd if she was wanting to join thier party or even add her as friend,She went to open her player menu but then stopped and waited for a reponse from the woman.
SidO regained his balance as Olivia let go of him. He stood and took a moment to regain his composure, summoning the user interface in front of him. He walks towards the newly arrived player while observing her status. Johanna. Vanguard huh? She sounded like an NPC for a second. But that talk about developers means the opposite.
He stops a short distance from Johanna and starts speaking. "Ms. Johanna. It's nice to meet you as well. And uh. We are players or Adventurers like you." He pauses and continues. "I'd go with Steel's explanation for the way things are." He turns to Olivia to answer her question for Johanna. "Ayyo. the lady's name is Johanna and she's a Vanguard." He turns back to Johanna. "Since you seem to be interested in our current investigation? Would you like to join our party?"

Johanna gladly took the cookie out of Olivia’s hands and began nibbling on it, while she listened to all three of their responses. The fox girl responded as heartily to her appearance as she had offered her a cookie. She must be the life of the little group in front of her. Steel on the other hand seemed to lecture her with a smile which reminded her of the smile her brother would often show to others but her. It was a charismatic, appeasing smile, although she knew that it wasn’t an honest one. “Protagonists of our own lives?”, she repeated in her mind and failed to understand the meaning of it. Protagonists are the focus characters of a narrative, a story. What did they have to do with one’s life? One’s life after all was not a story. It could be told as such, but that would only be done for those lives, which actually had a story to tell. The second part of his lecture, however, made more of an impact on her: “As for the developers, I don't think they had anything to do with it. Pretty sure they're practically nonexistent in our situation or else we would have been able to log out of here a long time ago or at least got some notification.” Johanna was not very experienced with MMORPGs, so she had been really impressed by how immersive Gaia Reborn had proven to be. Was Steel suggesting that this whole situation had somehow transcended the game? It’s not that she had not been surprised by how long this game session felt and how she was able to satisfy her physical needs inside it, but since she didn’t have anything better to do, she had never tried to log out yet.
A gentle laugh took her out of her confused thoughts. Not having heard the reason behind his laugh, Johanna just nodded with the second half of the cookie still between her lips. Now it was SidO’s turn to respond and he invited her to join their party.
“Hmm, I guess joining your party would make things easier for the both of us. I could observe your investigation and you would save time by having me as a guide and witness. I already investigated the homicide scenes, so I could show you around and answer some of your questions. Sadly the inhabitants already buried the dead, so you can’t check their corpses anymore like I did. I think they left the homicide scenes alone, though.” Word Count: 421 Total Word Count: 1709 Tags: SteelOliviaSidO
Steel remained cautious even while his party members seemed to have accepted her almost immediately. Sido had even invited her to join the party. Not that he had that much of an issue with it. More manpower was always welcome when there was an unknown enemy to deal with. She was a tank too so she'd be able to help him keep Olivia and Sido alive since their defenses were paper thin in comparison. And yet, this girl felt off to him from how detached from it all she was. He even noticed she stopped fully paying attention half way. And he would know, having pulled the same trick in high school to appear as though he was paying attention but was actually being lazy.
To a modicum of surprise, Johanna had accepted Sido's offer to join them in their investigations. From how she was speaking earlier about the three of them being protagonists and waiting for the story to happen, Steel thought she would just continue to stalk them from afar with the only difference being that they'd be aware of her presence. Seeing that Oliva and Sido were on board with it, Steel gave a mental sigh before he fiddled with the menu to send Johanna a request to join the party. "Welcome aboard then. Hope we get along."
"By the way, not that I have any problems with you joining but you gonna be okay?" Steel asked out of genuine concern. "The villagers aren't going to be so fond of you based on what you've told us. Even if you were waiting for a protagonist, to them you did nothing about it despite being so called immortal. Thinking that we Adventurers can solve everything being wrong aside, they're gonna be pissed at for you standing off to the side for so long." It was a conundrum. People of the Land were now living people who were for the most part powerless. To them, Adventurers were almost gods with their ability to revive after death. It wasn't wrong to help people but already, the former NPCs had grown overly reliant on the more powerful otherworlders to deal with problems.
Olivia Smiled as Johanna ate the cookie '' Enjoy! '' Olivia looked up for a second to see what the weather was doing it seemed like a normal gray day, windy not too cold nor warm. Sid0 Truned to Olivia to tell her Johannas name and that she is a Vangraud ''Oh Thats a Nice name! also a Vangraud thats Awsome Another tank to Protect me! '' She mutted to herself after '' Her Armor is Really cool! I Can't stop looking at it!''.
Steel then asked if Johanna will be Okay in the village Because she didn't help them instead she was just sitting waitng for the Protagonist's of the Story to come Along the road. Olivia listened Carefully to what steel was saying and began to wonder the same thing but thought she would of done the same thing but for another reason, She would of been too scared without friends to help her. Olivia turned too sid0 and steel '' Thank you for being my Friends! '' she smiled and then she turned to Steel ''Sorry! to interupt! Shall we keep walking into the village? ''
Welcome to the help dialog for the Custom Mini-Profile Creator plugin!
Click on any of the tabs above to go through the plugin configuration process!
You can access this menu at any time by clicking on the icon in the bottom right bar (may not be applicable if you're on Forums.net), or you can disable the welcome window and/or the icon by going to Plugins > Manage > Custom Mini-Profile Creator and changing the Show Help option.
This step is essential as it gives the plugin everything it needs on the page to get as much profile information as possible.
To make the profile variables work you'll need to add a new line to the very end of Themes > Layout Templates > Mini-Profile and paste the code below on it. The code should be placed completely outside of the mini-profile, so if you're using the default mini-profile template this will be after the very last closing </div> tag. This needs to be done on every theme you have the plugin enabled on as the template is theme-specific.
If your mini-profile template is already customized and you've hit the variable limit for your template you're free to remove any lines from the code below if they contain information that you don't plan on using. For example, if you have no plans to ever add a user's IP to their mini-profile for staff reference you can remove <div class="mp-info ip">$[user.ip]</div> from the code and everything else will still work just fine.
Once you've added the HTML from the Layout Templates tab you're ready to move on to building your mini-profiles. If you want to get going and try some out now or you're not very adept at HTML, CSS, or Javascript, worry not! This plugin includes some examples for you to try out. You're free to skip to the Custom Profile Fields tab and read over this tab later when you're ready to build your own.
Here's a quick rundown of each of the components in Plugins > Manage > Custom Mini-Profile Creator:
Name This is the name you'll be adding to your custom profile field dropdown once you've finished coding the mini-profile. Pretty self-explanatory. Make sure this name is unique from every other name you use for your mini-profiles or you'll end up overwriting the earlier ones in the list.
HTML This is the HTML that will go inside your mini-profile. You can use just about any HTML tag here so long as it's appropriate for where the mini-profile is showing on the page. Please refrain from using <style> or <script> tags here. You have the next two sections for that! Also, remember that mini-profiles can show multiple times on the same page, so you shouldn't add ID attributes to any of your elements here. Two elements on the same page cannot have the same ID per HTML standards.
CSS This is where you'll place what would normally go in your forum's style sheet or what would normally be between <style> tags. Try to code your mini-profile's HTML in a way that will allow you to target it specifically with your selectors. For example, you can surround all of the content in your HTML with a <div> element with a class and target that class and its child elements specifically with your CSS. That way you don't accidentally target every mini-profile on the page with CSS that was meant for the one you're building. One more thing: The forum theme's CSS still applies beforehand, so your mini-profile may look right in one theme but not in another. The best way to circumvent this is to define as many styles as you can to override the theme's CSS.
Javascript Anything that normally goes between <script> tags will go here. This one's a bit tricky since you'll obviously want to target the custom mini-profile specifically. Luckily there's an easy way to do that. In your statements you can use the $(this) variable to target the mini-profile if you're coding using jQuery. Otherwise, if you only plan on using standard Javascript you can target $(this)[0] instead.
Once you've finished building your mini-profiles it's finally time to add them to the Edit Profile page for use! To enable selection of custom mini-profiles you'll first need to add two specific custom profile fields in Members > Custom Profile Fields in your forum's admin area:
Mini-Profile Theme
Staff Mini-Profile Theme
Mini-Profile Theme is for mini-profiles that are designed for member use. You can set the Who Can Edit option for this field to Staff With Power if you only want staff to be able to choose mini-profiles for users. Otherwise, if you want members to freely be able to choose their own mini-profiles you can choose Members and Staff With Power.
Staff Mini-Profile Theme is for mini-profiles designed specifically for staff use. This field is completely optional.
Set the type for both of these fields as Drop Down Selection. Click on the (View/Edit) link to add mini-profile names to each of these fields.
If you've just installed this plugin you should have three different mini-profiles already installed by default: Example 1, Example 2, and Example 3. You can add these to your dropdowns to test them out and see the plugin in action.
If you're having trouble getting this plugin to work despite following the instructions in the previous tabs you may want to check that each of your themes meets the prerequisites below in Themes > Layout Templates > Mini-Profile.
First, ensure that opening tag of your mini-profile template includes the $[miniprofile_class] variable in its class. On the default ProBoards theme it should look something like this:
<div class="$[miniprofile_class]">
Next, make sure that the default {foreach} loop for custom fields is present inside your mini-profile. It doesn't need to be visible, so you're free to add it inside a hidden element if you don't plan on displaying it or if it would mess up the appearance of your own custom template.
Beyond that you can do whatever you like to the mini-profile template for the most part and it shouldn't negatively impact the plugin.
The following is a list of available variables for use in the HTML section of the mini-profile creator and their definitions. Adding any of these to a mini-profile will generate the content described in its definition in place of the variable so long as the information that variable outputs is visible to you.
To reference your forum's custom profile fields you can use $[user.customfieldname], substituting "customfieldname" with your custom field's name. You'll need to type the name in all lowercase with no spaces and only use characters A-Z and 0-9.
For example, Mini-Profile Theme becomes $[user.miniprofiletheme]. This will output the value of the custom field. In the case of this example, it'll be the name of the mini-profile theme you've chosen in your profile.
IMPORTANT NOTE: These will only work if you followed the steps in the Installation tab of this window on each of your themes. Any themes that do not include the template code specified there will not have these variables replaced in the mini-profile.

You can utilize the $(this) variable in the Javascript component to target the mini-profile <div> element. For example, if you wanted to add a class to the mini-profile you can use:
$(this).addClass('class-name-here');
Profile variables can also be used in the Javascript component in this plugin. In Javascript the value undefined is used to signify that a value doesn't exist for the variable you've specified. With this in mind you can use profile variables in Javascript conditional statements within the plugin similar to how they're used in the actual layout templates section of the admin area.
if(variable) will only run if the variable you specify has a value.
if(!variable) will only run if the variable you specify has no value.
Example 1 (variable has value):
if(user.group){
$(this).find('.group').show();
}
If the user has their group displayed in their profile the above Javascript would make the HTML below visible if you had it hidden with CSS.
