Gaia Reborn
Gaia Reborn, the hottest MMORPG of the last decade, has seen millions of players experience its unique world - a combination of fantasy and reality. When Gaia Reborn was a game, one goal was to make the game world a one-half scale model of the real world. This pursuit was known as the Half-Gaia Project, and it is one of the aspects which led to Gaia Reborn becoming such a popular virtual world. With regional servers having unique areas, quests, cities, and monsters, it wasn't uncommon for people to create alternate characters on other servers to experience what felt like an entirely new game.
Ten years after the game's launch, millions of players have joined and created countless characters across the many servers. Now, with the release of the latest expansion, Pioneers of Arcadia, many are getting ready to begin new adventures in the new Italian server, exploring the new region corresponding to Italy, known in Gaia as Italia. Characters would have to start from fresh in this new world, but Italy would finally get its own piece of this world.
Countless players created their characters, logged in with excitement fueling their hands as the cursor swept across the screen, and then... darkness... Everything was black, and as their eyes opened, the players found themselves in the streets of an unfamiliar city. Looking around to survey their surroundings, many players realized this city was not so new after all. While desolate and ruined, the architecture conquered by vines and greenery, this city was unmistakably Rome, but at the same time, it was not. Finding themselves in the bodies of their characters, trapped in the world of Gaia Reborn, players are left to adapt to their new reality in this fantasy world.
Eleanor's schedule was cleared. She finally had time to start the MMO known as Gaia Reborn. She was against the idea, but her friend insisted she start it. Saying that she needed some "pointless fun" in her life. She wasn't sure why fun needed to be pointless but she relented. Being unable to say no to her friend. As a result, there she was. Sitting in front of her computer. Looking at Wiki's and Guides for Gaia Reborn. If she was going to do this, it would be her way. Being as informed as possible in making her own decisions about things. After spending a solid chunk of time researching the game and learning the basics of gaming itself she moves on to creating her character. She wanted to avoid grouping with other players at first. Hating the idea of being a burden to them with how new she was to gaming in general. So she opted for a character that could be self sufficient while still being capable of joining parties down the line. Should she open herself up to it.
Starting off with what race her character would be. She decides on Zaria. Liking the extra MP Regeneration and not minding the reduced HP Regeneration because of the class she planed on picking. That class being Cleric. Healing was useful. It meant she would be valued in a group down the line and that on her own she would not need to rely on items. However, relying on MP and Magic to fight didn't sound very appealing to her. She decided to mitigate this by unlocking the Unarmed aptitude for her character when she could. Favoring this option over any of the weapons due to her time spent learning Wudang Martial Arts. For her talents, she opted to pick the Chef for her Crafting Talent. Making food with status buffing effects sounded appealing. She paired this with the Fisherman Character Talent. It provided her with several water related bonuses and by the sounds of it promised to afford her plenty of amazing fish to make Sushi out of, and she loved Sushi.
"Heh. I wasn't exactly sure what the point was at first. But... I'm beginning to see it. So this is pointless fun, huh? I'll be sure to thank her for getting me to do this..."
Time was running out for her first day. She figured she had enough time for the beginning area. So she could experience the basics first hand. She clicks the "Finish" button on the create a character screen and then everything goes black...
When focus returns to her vision she notices she is in a completely different environment and begins to freak out. She panics and runs around. Not thinking, just panicking. Eventually, though still panicking, she begins to think. A small portion of her usual calm and cheerful demeanor poking through the madness she was experiencing. What the hell is going on? I was just in my room on my computer. What is all this? The last thing I remember doing was... Creating my character for that game Beth got me to try. Was I drugged and kidnapped? Oh god. Mom... Dad... they're going to be terribly worried. Stress was overwhelming her now that she had time to think about what her unfamiliar surroundings could possibly mean. She wasn't having an easy go of things at first.
She was so lost in her own head she paid no attention to the fact that she was in a town. A majority of the residents were ignoring her. However, one old man was kind enough to go and try to calm her down. He walked over to her and placed a hand on one of her shoulders. She was in a state of panic and had undergone training in Martial Arts. Without thinking she grabs the hand on her shoulder and twists it. Causing the old man some pain before she pushes the hand away from her and turns to face him. Upon seeing the advanced age of the man she attacked she is filled with a mix of emotions. She is unsure if he is an innocent or if he was one of or the one responsible for her kidnapping. As that was still what she believed was going on.
"Whoa! That's quite the grip you have young lady! You seemed to be rather scared. Is someone after you? Don't worry! You've made it to Romalia, our town's guard is the best! Be it monster, bandit or any sort of ne'er do well, within this city's borders you're as safe as can be!"
The old man gave her some much needed clarity on her current situation, but the more he revealed to her the more questions she had. Romalia? That's not a city. Does he mean Rome? How did I end up in Italy? Also monsters? Bandits? What is this a gam... The realization of what had really happened to her had set in. She was somehow transported to the game world. No no no. That kind of stuff only happens in fiction. This is reality. This can't be happening. This can't be happening. This can't be happening. This can't be happening. This can't be happening. This can't be happening. In disbelief she was stuck in a loop. She was still surrounded by a city of people. A fact she was made aware of thanks to the old man talking to her. She runs away. Wanting to be alone to process.
Arriving at a random alley in the city. She is finally alone. She takes some deep breaths. Hoping to calm herself down. Unfortunately it only brings further awareness of her situation to her. Wait. How am I breathing. This is a game world right? Speaking of breathing... My body. Is it still in reality? Will I eventually die? I... I can't do this. I though I could handle anything. I prided myself on my ability to adapt and learn. But this... I don't think I can do this. In the midst of her self doubt, the cries of a young girl snap her out of the torrent of bad thoughts she was having. She rushes towards the source of the crying. A young girl had fallen over and gotten hurt. Seeing the girl crying and holding her knee in pain, she remembers something.
I picked the Cleric class right? I know I picked one healing skill too. What was it called? If this was like the game. Then there should be a skills menu I could look at. However... She stopped thinking. Interrupted by the sudden appearance of a menu displaying her skills. There is still a menu. Which means this is still a game in some way. Maybe playing the game means I can return home eventually. Well before I worry about that... I better heal this girl. Thinking of her Healing Hands skill, her hands glow a faint blue light and she touches the girl's knee. The light envelops her and her wound disappears. Taking the pain it caused with it. The little girl stops crying and offers a big smile to Viridi.
"Thanks miss! What's your name?"
"My name? It's El-. It's Viridi. My name is Viridi."
"Thanks Miss Viridi!"
The little girl then ran off full blast. That reckless running is likely what caused her to get that scrape. No matter. She had almost given her her real name. However she wasn't Eleanor Moreau. No. In this world she was Viridi the Cleric. As if an angel sent from the heavens, that little girl managed to snap her out of all of her bad thinking and calm her down. Whether this was all a program or not. Everyone else was as real as she was. At least, as far as she was concerned. She managed to help someone and in doing so got some hope that maybe this wasn't going to be a permanent thing. It was just the start of things though. As now that she was calmed down she needed to explore the city properly... She moves on ready to engage this world for the first time since she's arrived. To start. She aims to go back to where she first arrived if possible. Hoping to apologize to the old man for her earlier actions... So she travels. Hoping to not get lost on her way back...
Viridi's first day in Gaia Reborn was not starting off as she planned. Ignoring the fact that she was trapped, she acted uncharacteristically. At least, she thought so. As she had never been in a situation like this. It wasn't easy to tell if she responded how she should have or not. Regardless, she would spend a rather large amount of time trying to retrace her steps while getting a feel for the city. Even if it was perfectly modeled after Rome, she had no idea what Rome was like. Having never been there before. I hope I can find that elderly gentleman. He was kind enough to try and calm me down and didn't even mind when I twisted his wrist and pushed him back. I definitely need to apologize to him. Only, after what seemed like a couple hours of searching, the old man was nowhere to be found.
"Boy... I've really messed things up, huh? If I can't find him then... I think I'll instead focus on learning a bit more on how things work here. That menu that displayed my skills... Does it only display skills? How exactly did it appear anyways?"
She wondered aloud. She would then find a secluded spot. Not because she wanted to be alone, but because she did not want to disturb other people with her tests. Once clear of people to disturb she begins. First she tries various finger and hand gestures. None of them worked. She thought back more on the moment when she was helping the little girl. Back then... what did I do to make it appear? I was just... Oh! I was thinking about it. Maybe that's all I need to do. Menu appear! On cue, the Main Menu for the game appeared in front of her. Her eyes widened a bit. Happy she was beginning to figure a few things out about her new reality. She sifted through the various menus available to her. Confirming that she had all of the abilities she had chosen on the Character Create screen. After confirming this, her next goal was to see how she could obtain the Unarmed proficiency. It seemed like she needed AP for it, but she wasn't exactly sure how she obtained AP. For now, she would keep a note of the information but put it aside.
While perusing the menu, she was made aware of two other skills she had. Auto-Attack, and Call of Home. Both being rather self-explanatory. Auto-Attack let her do attacks without manual input of any kind. As in, her body would move on its own. While Call of Home lets her, after a long cast time, returns her to a place she has designated her home city. The description of it cautioned against repeated use and so she wouldn't rely on it. She had other skills in addition to those, but she had a basic idea of how to use them. From her interaction with the girl. The skills seemed to be activated by thought much like the menu. With this new information in hand about how the game aspect of this world was, she decided to get some first-hand experience and resume her exploration of the city. Only this time she would be focusing on points of interest. Instead of looking for the old man. Of course, she would keep an eye out for him, but her primary purpose this time around would be to interact and familiarize herself. Rather than searching him out.
As she explores the city, she comes across several shops run by the NPCs of this world... People of the Land. Which, as she found out while researching, people refer to them simply as Landers. Thinking back on her day so far, a few questions came to mind. So that little girl and the old man must have been 'Landers' but... How aware are they of what is going on? Do they know there are people like me in this world? People, who aren't native to it like them? Was one of them responsible for this? I have a lot of questions but I can't exactly ask them. Not sure what that would mean, and maybe they can't even reply outside of their pre-programmed dialogues. The only way I see myself learning more about this is by talking with others like me. I don't want to do that just yet though. If they're able to see my class then they'd likely ask to group up with. I would rather not lie or tell them why I would refuse. So, for now, I'll do my best figuring out what is going on by myself.
As she was thinking to herself for a while she ended up stopping in front of a shop. The Lander who ran it was kindly asking her to move along as she was holding up customers.
"Oh! I'm sorry! I'll be on my way."
After apologizing she started to think some more after the thought of earning money entered her mind. If this is like a game still... I'll have to earn money by fighting monsters and completing requests. Then I need to secure a place to sleep. The food should be fine. I am a chef and while I am hunting monsters I can hopefully make something from that. The idea doesn't sound appealing but I know my way around a recipe. I can make something work... Right? Though she didn't like the idea. She needed to do something to get some money. If she wanted a nice place to stay. If she wanted free food she would have to make this money making of hers be through hunting some weak monsters. It would also serve as combat practice for her. Using skills in the risk-free City and in active combat was likely very different.
With that in mind, her new goal is to find a place that offered rewards for hunting monsters. Games usually had a place like that. At least that was what google told her during her research prior to making her character. When she was going over the various menus earlier, she confirmed her starting equipment too. A wand, a shield, and a basic shirt. Which she wondered how that could be considered an armor piece. Well, at least she could hunt monsters right away without needing to buy something first. She would rather not have to earn money doing something else first. Given how efficient things would be if she was able to hunt monsters for money. It would be dangerous sure, but she had some confidence in her healing skill and in her own judgment. Judgment that hopefully wouldn't put her in a situation she could not handle.
Things were beginning to take shape for her. Her original plan for her character, or rather, for herself, as she was in fact her character now, was still intact. She had a rudimentary plan to secure shelter and food for herself, and all that was left was to put it in action. The initial panic over, she was beginning to adapt to her new reality. However, things wouldn't remain so easy for very long... A brutal truth she had been avoiding would soon catch up with her.
She resumed her exploration of Romalia. Keeping an eye out for a place to do requests. The smile that frequented her face had returned and things were looking up. During her walking though, she spotted something that changed everything. It was a small boy and his mom and dad. It filled her with memories of her own parents and then she felt like she could cry. She had accepted her new living situation and was okay with it. However, accepting that she could never again see her friends and family was a different story entirely. Mom... Dad... Beth... Everyone. Will I ever see them again? Should I look to start a family here? Should I just remain alone? I... I'm not sure which would be easier.
Her smile had vanished from her face but she was not spiraling like when she first arrived. Having stopped after seeing the family, she resumes walking through the bustling streets of Romalia. As she passed through the town she overheard many conversations. A lot of gossip about some sort of hysteria that happened earlier. Apparently a lot of people were freaking out not too long ago. Must be other players who realized they were within the game world as if it were reality. I reacted much the same way. Wonder if all of them managed to cope or if there are some still freaking out. Not that it's any of my concern.
After spending so much time walking, she began to feel the effects. Much sooner than she expected too at that. That's weird. I'm feeling tired already? I hadn't really noticed it since I've just been walking but... Moving feels different. Like very similar but not quite the same. Guess that is to be expected. This is a... virtual body, right? Not a real one. Well whatever it is, I better adjust and fast. Especially if I want to use Wudang Martial Arts to fight down the road. With a new, more immediate goal in mind, she aims to master moving in her new body. She does some stepping methods she learned during her martial arts training as she walks around the city a bit longer. Finally giving in to her exhaustion and sitting on a nearby bench. While she is resting on this bench, she is approached by a man about her age. In similar clothes at that.
"You're like me right? Someone from the real world... An Adventurer? Group up with me! With a Cleric on my team monsters will be a cinch."
It was happening. Much earlier than she expected too. She had only been in town a few hours before being recruited by someone. She paused before responding. Desperately thinking of an excuse to end things now without further questioning. However, she was coming up with nothing. All she could do was be blunt and precise in her response.
"No thank you."
The man did not take her response very well.
"What? You're a fucking cleric! You're supposed to group up with others! What the hell do you think you can do on your own?"
She did not like lying but did not want things to escalate any further.
"I started this game with my friends. I'm waiting for them to meet me here."
He gave her a look that suggested he didn't quite believe her and then walked off. Phew. People sure can be pushy. Even in things like this. Or maybe... Especially in things like this? Well, whatever. It's over with now. I've rested enough too. Time to resume my body adjustment training slash exploration of the city. She stood up and began walking. Doing more of her stepping method to acclimate herself faster. As she walked off, the man who pestered her earlier followed. Having been hiding close by. Not believing her and wanted to catch her in the lie and pressure her to join him once more. After following her for a few minutes, in a rather unpopulated part of the city, he calls out to her.
"I knew you were lying. Just join up with me already!"
She turns to see the same man from earlier and immediately shouts in response.
"Just leave me alone! I'm not grouping up with you or anyone for that matter!"
She stops practicing and enters a full force sprint. Going at her max speed, the man following has trouble keeping up and eventually opts against pursuing her further. Once she realizes she is no longer being chased, she stops and catches her breath. Jeez. Some people. Even if I were open to grouping up with people right now... I wouldn't ever group up with someone like that. Not wanting to risk running into that guy again, she opts against exploring the city more. For now, settling for practicing the Martial Art itself. Getting herself used to punching and kicking in advance of getting access to the Unarmed attribute. She would do this for another hour or so. An hour of nothing but practice. She liked to prepare herself and she did not want to be found, so this was perfect for her. For now at least. She still needed to find a way to earn a living by hunting monsters. On her own. As she figured she could easily be hired by parties looking for a healer.
Her muscles were aching. A sign she needed to stop practicing for the day. Unfortunately for her, she had no money and was looking for a place to sleep. She decided to brave the city once more and look for a place she could rest. Hopefully a cozy enough area that was out of the way. Not one to waste a good opportunity, she also kept an eye out for a possible place that would give out quests. What were those called again? A Quest Hall? Sounds right... She did not commit the specific name to memory. Having decided that she could learn more before her second play session. Not knowing that she would only get one chance to learn what she needed to know. For her it is late afternoon. Too early to sleep for real. So when she actually finds a place to rest it will only be for a nap of about an hour or so. She still had things to do before she ended her first day.
Meanwhile... The guy who attempted to recruit her was seething mad. He thought he was being nice by offering to group up with Viridi. Yet she refused him and lied to his face. Being a vengeful type, he enacts a plan for revenge. He plans to wait by the entrance to the city, out of sight. Waiting for her to leave. He then planned to attack her to prove how useless she was on her own. Unfortunately for him, she did not plan on leaving the city on her first day. She spent too much time walking around and did not want to venture out with no hope of returning before the sun sets and the moon rises.
For her efforts, she finally found a place to rest. She walks over. A bench in a side street that had no shops or people. Without even questioning why a bench was where no people were around she lies down and closes her eyes. Before sleeping, her thoughts overtake her mind. Well this is my life now. Isn't it? If I ever make it back to the real world... I will never let Beth hear the end of this. 'Just play the game!' She says. 'It'll be fun.' She says. 'If you don't like it you'll only have spent a few hours on it.' She says. This is definitely not a few hours. Hell... It might even be for a few years... Or more... She would finally doze off. Her nap finally starting.
Welcome to the help dialog for the Custom Mini-Profile Creator plugin!
Click on any of the tabs above to go through the plugin configuration process!
You can access this menu at any time by clicking on the icon in the bottom right bar (may not be applicable if you're on Forums.net), or you can disable the welcome window and/or the icon by going to Plugins > Manage > Custom Mini-Profile Creator and changing the Show Help option.
This step is essential as it gives the plugin everything it needs on the page to get as much profile information as possible.
To make the profile variables work you'll need to add a new line to the very end of Themes > Layout Templates > Mini-Profile and paste the code below on it. The code should be placed completely outside of the mini-profile, so if you're using the default mini-profile template this will be after the very last closing </div> tag. This needs to be done on every theme you have the plugin enabled on as the template is theme-specific.
If your mini-profile template is already customized and you've hit the variable limit for your template you're free to remove any lines from the code below if they contain information that you don't plan on using. For example, if you have no plans to ever add a user's IP to their mini-profile for staff reference you can remove <div class="mp-info ip">$[user.ip]</div> from the code and everything else will still work just fine.
Once you've added the HTML from the Layout Templates tab you're ready to move on to building your mini-profiles. If you want to get going and try some out now or you're not very adept at HTML, CSS, or Javascript, worry not! This plugin includes some examples for you to try out. You're free to skip to the Custom Profile Fields tab and read over this tab later when you're ready to build your own.
Here's a quick rundown of each of the components in Plugins > Manage > Custom Mini-Profile Creator:
Name This is the name you'll be adding to your custom profile field dropdown once you've finished coding the mini-profile. Pretty self-explanatory. Make sure this name is unique from every other name you use for your mini-profiles or you'll end up overwriting the earlier ones in the list.
HTML This is the HTML that will go inside your mini-profile. You can use just about any HTML tag here so long as it's appropriate for where the mini-profile is showing on the page. Please refrain from using <style> or <script> tags here. You have the next two sections for that! Also, remember that mini-profiles can show multiple times on the same page, so you shouldn't add ID attributes to any of your elements here. Two elements on the same page cannot have the same ID per HTML standards.
CSS This is where you'll place what would normally go in your forum's style sheet or what would normally be between <style> tags. Try to code your mini-profile's HTML in a way that will allow you to target it specifically with your selectors. For example, you can surround all of the content in your HTML with a <div> element with a class and target that class and its child elements specifically with your CSS. That way you don't accidentally target every mini-profile on the page with CSS that was meant for the one you're building. One more thing: The forum theme's CSS still applies beforehand, so your mini-profile may look right in one theme but not in another. The best way to circumvent this is to define as many styles as you can to override the theme's CSS.
Javascript Anything that normally goes between <script> tags will go here. This one's a bit tricky since you'll obviously want to target the custom mini-profile specifically. Luckily there's an easy way to do that. In your statements you can use the $(this) variable to target the mini-profile if you're coding using jQuery. Otherwise, if you only plan on using standard Javascript you can target $(this)[0] instead.
Once you've finished building your mini-profiles it's finally time to add them to the Edit Profile page for use! To enable selection of custom mini-profiles you'll first need to add two specific custom profile fields in Members > Custom Profile Fields in your forum's admin area:
Mini-Profile Theme
Staff Mini-Profile Theme
Mini-Profile Theme is for mini-profiles that are designed for member use. You can set the Who Can Edit option for this field to Staff With Power if you only want staff to be able to choose mini-profiles for users. Otherwise, if you want members to freely be able to choose their own mini-profiles you can choose Members and Staff With Power.
Staff Mini-Profile Theme is for mini-profiles designed specifically for staff use. This field is completely optional.
Set the type for both of these fields as Drop Down Selection. Click on the (View/Edit) link to add mini-profile names to each of these fields.
If you've just installed this plugin you should have three different mini-profiles already installed by default: Example 1, Example 2, and Example 3. You can add these to your dropdowns to test them out and see the plugin in action.
If you're having trouble getting this plugin to work despite following the instructions in the previous tabs you may want to check that each of your themes meets the prerequisites below in Themes > Layout Templates > Mini-Profile.
First, ensure that opening tag of your mini-profile template includes the $[miniprofile_class] variable in its class. On the default ProBoards theme it should look something like this:
<div class="$[miniprofile_class]">
Next, make sure that the default {foreach} loop for custom fields is present inside your mini-profile. It doesn't need to be visible, so you're free to add it inside a hidden element if you don't plan on displaying it or if it would mess up the appearance of your own custom template.
Beyond that you can do whatever you like to the mini-profile template for the most part and it shouldn't negatively impact the plugin.
The following is a list of available variables for use in the HTML section of the mini-profile creator and their definitions. Adding any of these to a mini-profile will generate the content described in its definition in place of the variable so long as the information that variable outputs is visible to you.
To reference your forum's custom profile fields you can use $[user.customfieldname], substituting "customfieldname" with your custom field's name. You'll need to type the name in all lowercase with no spaces and only use characters A-Z and 0-9.
For example, Mini-Profile Theme becomes $[user.miniprofiletheme]. This will output the value of the custom field. In the case of this example, it'll be the name of the mini-profile theme you've chosen in your profile.
IMPORTANT NOTE: These will only work if you followed the steps in the Installation tab of this window on each of your themes. Any themes that do not include the template code specified there will not have these variables replaced in the mini-profile.

You can utilize the $(this) variable in the Javascript component to target the mini-profile <div> element. For example, if you wanted to add a class to the mini-profile you can use:
$(this).addClass('class-name-here');
Profile variables can also be used in the Javascript component in this plugin. In Javascript the value undefined is used to signify that a value doesn't exist for the variable you've specified. With this in mind you can use profile variables in Javascript conditional statements within the plugin similar to how they're used in the actual layout templates section of the admin area.
if(variable) will only run if the variable you specify has a value.
if(!variable) will only run if the variable you specify has no value.
Example 1 (variable has value):
if(user.group){
$(this).find('.group').show();
}
If the user has their group displayed in their profile the above Javascript would make the HTML below visible if you had it hidden with CSS.
