- NPC -Name: Basilio FlaviusAppearance: Basilio Flavius is an older human male of 68 years with dark well-bronzed skin, and a large scar down the side of his face. His bald scalp glistens in the sun when exposed, though he often wears a large hat because he likes how hats feel, not out of shame for his mirror-esque dome. The outer corners of his eyes have long and deep wrinkles betraying the old man's happy and friendly personality. His teeth are clean and white, and shine bright when he smiles. His voice is deep and powerful, reverberating from his large and well muscled chest when he speaks or laughs.
He is tall for a Gaian, but in a world of adventurers he is only above average, standing at about 190cm (6'3"). He has an almost intimidating sense of presence, seeming larger that life, and being with him feels almost like one is demanded to show respect. He is built like a tank. Much of his skin, save for the wrinkles on his face, is still tightly stretched over imposing muscles built over years of hard work and training, leaving almost no room for any wrinkles. While not visible to any but those he trusts, and even then rarely exposed, he has a large scar on his outer right thigh. He has worked for years to accommodate this injury and can now walk or even jog without ever exposing that he has a limp, though it does cause him pain. In general he walks in a rather slow but relaxed pace, clearly just letting himself enjoy life.
At the time of his first encounter with an Adventurer, Basilio wore commoners clothes. A white linen shirt that opened in the front exposing the mans still impressive abdominal muscles and pectorals. His pants were slightly torn around the bottom and were brown in color. However, this is far from his usual apparel of choice. When prepared for any battle Basilio dons his bright Heavy Armor as well as his imposingly massive two-handed axe. But even this apparel is not his common clothing of choice.
Most often Basilio is found wearing clothing befitting his status as a noble. Finer trousers, shirts and tunics with brighter colors, though still he over wears them such that any buttons are undone until about three-quarters of the way down his pectorals, exposing his chest of black hair.
Personality: Basilio is very much not what one would expect from a noble, or at least not most of the time. In general he presents himself as a happy go lucky gentleman. He is kind and caring, and in general treasure life in all its forms. This love does not extend to goblinoids, which he has led several campaigns against, and fought for many years of his long life to protect his fellow People of the Land from the scourge. He is very light hearted in general, very quick to laugh and joke with strangers and friends alike.
He has a habit of forgetting someone's name only moments after learning it, as so continues to refer to them as either "Boy" or "Young Lady" depending on their gender, and only after he feels they have proven themselves a friend of his, or otherwise worthy of respect, does he begin to call them by their name. This eventuality does potentially betray that his memory for names is better than he presents, but he does not mind revealing that fact to the people he feels are worth calling by their names in the first place.
This habit extends to his fellow nobles, and were he not of such high standing both in the public eye and in his status, he would likely had paid dearly for his habit of unintentionally insulting his fellow noblemen by 'forgetting' their names.
Basilio is very much an extrovert and loves meeting new and interesting people. Hearing people's stories is his favorite thing about meeting strangers. He is very much an intuitive person. People who know him might argue that one of his catchphrases is "My gut tells me..." but he would deny this saying its not
that common for him to say it. Despite being intuitive, he still trusts what he sees, if the facts add up he will trust them, even over his intuiting at times of greater importance.
Basilio very highly values honesty from the people he speaks with, and has an almost inhuman ability to pick up on lies, instantly changing his perception of the person telling them for the worse if he does not see a justifiable reason for the lie. Due to his inate ability for picking up lies, he is also incredibly trusting, able to rely on his talent to keep him away from people who may have more ill intentions.
Above all, for all his grumbling and playful jabs, Basilio loves and cherishes his wife. His children are a very close second, and after that he values the entirety of Lander-kind. He treats the homeless with the same respect as he does nobles because in his eyes, whether one eats with silver utensils at a grand oak table, or with their bare dirty hands from a trash bin, all men will die and end up reborn again, possibly switching places in their next lives. As such, no person is above any other.
Biography: Basilio Flavius was born to Ferox and Khina Flavius, the third of four sons. His elder brothers passed away when he was still only a young man. The second eldest, Bastov, passed away on campaign when Basilio was only fourteen years old. His eldest brother, Basco, died from illness only three years later, when Basilio was seventeen. Due to the loss of his elder brothers, Basilio became unexpectedly the next in line to inherit the family title and estate. He never saw himself as a leader however, and had always been the wild one in the family, breaking urns by accident and playing loudly during important diplomatic meetings his parents held occasionally at their home. Thrust into this new position, only a short few years after losing two of his greatest role models, Basilio became very protective of his younger brother. He volunteered to go on campaign several times in his brother's stead, wanting to spare him from the cruel fate that had met Bastov.
After years of rising through the ranks as a powerful and respected warrior, Basilio was called home to take his place as the leader of the family as his father felt it was time to step down a year after Basilio's mother had passed. Basilio was reluctant at first and even asked his younger brother Basimon to take over instead, but Basimon pointed out that Basilio had proven just how good a leader he was having risen so high in the military ranks, and that his inherent kind and caring nature would surely lead the family to great things.
Only two years after taking over Basilio was married to a childhood friend of his, a commoner's child who always kept him in line with her quick retorts and sharp tongue when they were younger, and continued to do so even now.
Immediately after the events of the apocalypse, Basilio made the executive decision to have his family leave Romalia for the time being. He had a summer lodge in the woods which his wife stayed at with him, but his many employees chose to stay in the manor despite his objections in the interest of their safety. They wanted to keep his home safe from raiders however, and promised him that he would be able to come back to the Manor in the same state as it had been when he left. Having retired from the majority of his duties years prior, Basilio still carried the weight of his name, but his daughter now led the estate.
After a few months on the cabin, living life comfortably and quietly in the woods, a strange man stumbled upon Basilio, and became the first adventurer to have him call them by their name. Basilio soon after decided it was likely time to return home, as clearly the Adventurers were not nearly as invasive or dangerous immortals as the initial fear had made them seem.
Class/Talent: Vanguard, Scholar, Carpenter.
Locations: Prior to his first encounter with Maruem he would have been found in his summer cabin in the Ciminian forest. However he has since decided to return to his duties and his manor in the Romalian Forum, and that is the most likely region in which to encounter him, though he may be found in any number of places as he wanders. He is, for example, a still highly sought-after guest for balls.
